slynn_lynn's Journal, 04 January 2016

Last year was a wash, as I moved from small town USA to the big city. Been very stressed this whole year, money has been a huge factor, since I don't have enough and the ex is behind over 30k in support. Scraping the bottom of the barrel, using CC til they squeak and eating anything in sight, as well as drinking lotsa wine.

I'll do okay for a few days or a week, then it's back to the store for another bottle (or box!) I'm not the least bit happy with this whole mess and I exacerbated it by constantly getting on the scales, watching the numbers creep up and up and up. Trying to justify what was happening, but finally not able to anymore when I couldn't fit into a single pair of size 16 or 18 or even 20 pants comfortably anymore. This is just plain embarassing and scary.

Not only that, but once we got settled in the new city, with new doctors and all, went in for a first visit with the new doctor and she found a heart murmur. Which, you'd think, would be my incentive for NOT gaining weight, but somehow, it just didn't matter.

Trying to deal with my ex and how he treats me and his mother (I'm her guardian, I take care of her and she lives with me), plus somewhere in the last year, my oldest daughter has decided that I'm the worst Mom in the world (I really am trying to figure out just where that came from) and she disowned me.

That's pretty much the sum total of it all. I was so determined a year and half ago, I was mostly adhereing to watching what I ate and exercising, although not as much as I should have, but at least I was TRYING! This whole year, I just haven't tried. So, we're giving it a go and I'm taking baby steps and just trying to be aware. Calorie count, some exercise (no room in the condo for the treadmill or Total Gym), but will make the effort to get out and walk every day for at least 30 minutes. That's way more than I've been doing thus far and it's a slow step in the right direction, so we'll see where it leads us.

You'll be surprised at the benefits of walking 30 mins/daily. Start gradually and then pick up the pace. I too have a heart issue and doc recommends this.

Thank you, I know many people who walk every day, rain or shine. I appreciate the positive comment.
