I cut back on my eating, I still can't seem to lose any weight. I know I don't have time to work out right now, but with me cutting back on my foods and my junk food, I still should be able to lose the weight. I am just so bummed :(
148.0 lb Lost so far: 4.0 lb.    Still to go: 28.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
gaining 0.8 lb a week

I have been drinking a least 3 20 oz bottles of water a day. For over a month I ate salads for lunch which consisted of Spinach, Raisins, Mandarin oranges, and Sunflower seeds. I know that some people tell me its age, and I know that may have some to do with it. I also know when i can start working out again that will help as well. Thanks everyone for the helpful ideas and for being around to give me strength. It is very much appreciated

There is some truth to age making a difference, but I think it's really mostly to do with the bad habits we settle into over the years, and the fact is when we get older, we tend to reward ourselves with food. I looked back over your journals and you are beating yourself up all the time for failing. Stop. It is good to get into an exercise habit, but do it in moderation, and avoid the "all or nothing" strategy. If you have time to do a 10 minute walk, do it. Just because you can't do 4 miles, isn't a good reason to neglect exercise entirely. Forget the magic vitamins and pills. Get plenty of sleep. Try to choose healthier foods, but don't deprive yourself entirely. You want to get to where your body continues to burn calories at a higher rate, so it has to think there is always more coming its way. Eat lots of small healthier meals throughout the day, yet keep at about your RDI. Don't just eat a bunch of celery or broccoli that doesn't have enough calories; it may be good for you, for you need the energy that comes from calories. Of course, muscle burns more than calories, so as you do more walking and other exercise, you will gain more muscle, and your metabolism will be much more efficient. IMHO.

You're goal is to lose around thirty pounds, in the absence of working out and losing it through exercise you're trying to do it in the kitchen, which is awesome. The hard part will be reconciling that there are going to be some foods you just have to avoid. If you have a steady weight history you can track down whatever it is that's causing you problems.

try cutting out some of the fruit, just for a few weeks bc fruit has a lot of sugar. Add it back once you've lost some weight. Also, just a side note.. you may want to consider walking at least 20m day for days a week, it will really help. Also, let go of the "timeframe" goal. Instead of saying 30 lbs by Jan. just say I wanna lose 30 lbs..It helped me a lot.. Good luck again

At 57 I find low carb is the only way I can lose weight. It comes off slow but it's in a consistent downward direction. I still have a long way to go but it's with the right frame of mind and healthy eating and so much education. I find the more I learn the more sense it makes and the more I am able to make much wiser choices.

You can do this! You can. These are all good suggestions here, exercise in any way that gets you started, drink water, eat breakfast, eat small meals/snacks 5 or 6 times a day, also I swear by green tea! Give it a go! It will happen, hang on there.

Are you tracking your food? Sometimes you may be overeating (even if you're eating healthy food), and the only way to see that is by tracking what you eat. Good luck!

I do the tracking on some things but not all. I have decided starting tomorrow it will be slim fast for 2 meals, then a well balanced meal, and only slim fast or fibers bars in between if I happen to get hungry.,,, I am normally and for many many years only weighed 110 lbs I am not this heavy unless I was pregnant. So here comes the determination to start back walking, working out. Good luck to everyone and keep up the good work

I too, at age 64, have found that only counting carbs can help me lose weight. And I have to track every single thing I put in my mouth. But it is much easier because meat, cheese and egg are all 0. Because of all the protein I am never hungry, which was the problem with every other diet I tried. I plan to stay on this the rest of my life. Each person has to find something they can do that they can stay on the rest of their life. Keep hunting. You will find it.

yup. 57 here. Counting carbs is the only way and after the first 20 it has been so slow. Watch the cheese and dairy. It slows it down. The inches continue to go lower. Stay the course. You will get there.
