OutlanderFan's Journal, 21 November 2015

Think I know what happened this week. A couple of things: first, I had stopped taking my diuretic over a week ago thinking I didn't need it anymore because I was losing so much water being in ketosis. Secondly, I have been doing "intermittent fasting" which means I only eat 8 hrs per day. I noticed in the middle of the week that my weight was up to 245 lbs again and I was feeling "puffy" so I had one of the nurses check my BP and it was up to 157/86! When I was on my diuretic (HCTZ 25 mg) I usually ran 130s/70s. So for the last 3 days I have been back on my HCTZ and I shed a lot of water weight! I guess despite the natural diuresis of being keto, my body still tries to hold on to water. I have been making sure I am getting enough sodium, potassium, and magnesium.

I also realized that though I was keeping my carbs low, I really wasn't eating enough fat so I have been making a conscientious effort to increase it. This is somewhat difficult because I am not naturally a big fan of meat, but I have been eating things like chicken Vienna sausages, which have a lot of fat but don't taste too fatty and last night I had Italian sausages.

If I had kept on my old way of eating, I would have become a diabetic and not only would I have to watch my carbs anyway, but I would have to take insulin or oral meds AND have the terrible secondary effects that diabetes carries (eye, heart, liver, and kidney disease).

I am thankful that I finally saw the light and thankful for all the support I get from this site.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

We must be twins separated at birth! I read this journal and I could just copy and paste as my own entry. LOL!

Stay strong. Its good that you are aware of the solution. Keep up the good work. The alternative sounds scary.
