Truth be told, although I did have a weight loss, I'm somewhat disappointed. The Atkins promise on the first few weeks, (and my prior experience with it was a good substantial loss). I didn't get that. But on the upside, I enjoyed food without the anguish of those cravings. And that's a whole lot.

Did I adhere strictly to the diet? I don't exactly know. I know I didn't consume anything off the approved list (except for a red bell pepper), but I didn't measure the carbs either. (I even read that too much meat can be converted into carbs).

The big problem with this diet is that it goes against what I think and feel in my heart of heart, what a good healthy, environmentally friendly diet should be. Fruits, nuts, vegetable, grains, some dairy, some meat and fats. But when I get into that mode of eating, I get those nasty cravings. In fact, because of these beliefs, I've often wanted to become a vegetarian.

I'll continue the diet for a week, because it was so AHHH liberating! Even if I was constipated (or just not going) that too was liberating..(I know, that sounds really odd but I felt no symptoms, so I can't say that it posed any problems whatsoever)

For what it's worth, in the first 2 weeks, I drink water (aim for 6 glasses -Atkins Diet now counts tea, coffee, diet soda as well), try to reduce daily carb intake by no more than 5-10, and weigh in each morning. If you couple that with walking, or any mild exercise, you'll drop up to a pound a day...guaranteed. Good luck, and keep heart. The feeling of elation makes it all worth it, as you've experienced. Good luck.

Congratulations on sticking with the diet. I go through phases when I think I could go vegetarian. When I am hitting on all cylinders and prepping veggies when I buy them, then it is easy to cook and I think I could do it. Then I get lazy and a big giant steak (last night) is easy, good, and way filling. After eating that big slab of meat I think to myself there is no way I am going vegetarian. In the end I think I will just keep trying to increase the veggies. Have a great week.

Maybe part of the reason you werent 'going' was the 'wheaty/ricey/carby' bulk was missing, so you didn't have the need to 'go'?

@Grandbears - wow, 5 to 10 carbs a day. I don't know if mentally and physically I can subscribe to such a low carb intake. It's against so much of what I've learnt in the past.

Low carb dieting can be moderate or strict. I lost my excess weight by limiting bread to one piece a day and by not eating potatoes, winter squashes, corn or peas. Just choose low carb veggies that are high in fiber. That should help to keep you feeling full and help with the bowel moving.

Low carb high fiber foods: broccoli, cauliflower, blackberries, asparagus, celery, eggplant, Romaine lettuce, mushrooms, radishes, red raspberries, cabbage, bell peppers, Snow Peas (edible pod), zucchini, strawberries, ground flax seed, mustard greens, chicory, endive, collard greens, avocado, spinach, chard, etc.
