So my Keto friends, I have been using the Ketostix twice a day for a couple weeks. Usually in the morning its just dark enough to tell at a glance that its there but not much darker. It's my understanding its a you are or you aren't so I haven't thought much before about it.

Today I was all the way at the other end, on the darkest purple. What does that MEAN? Am I dehydrated(likely)? Haven't eaten enough? Should I DO something or just trust it will go back to normal after a few days?

They had a serious fat phobia at the hospital and and gave me crazy looks when I tried to order and basically said no. Even the hunks of meat had lite sauces. A piece of steak and I had a stare-down Wednesday night but I couldn't do it lol. So all I have eaten was boiled eggs, celery and peanut butter, a tiny bag of nuts,and jello with tons of coffee and water. It was insane, they had a complete dessert menu with cookies cakes and fruit smothered cheesecakes as well as ice cream ( soft serve of course). But they couldn't cook me a chicken breast in olive oil with spinach cauliflower or broccoli.

So anyhoo, have I entered some enhance Keto state or should I just drink a bunch of water?

Not qualified to comment on the keto, but wanted to let you know I feel badly for your son that he had to go to the hospital. Hope you guys can go home soon!

The darker the stick the more ketones you are excreting, meaning more fat is going away. Based on what you are eating, that's not surprising as your intake of carbs is essentially zero. It has nothing to do with hydration. If your pee isn't dark yellow, you don't have a hydration issue. I finally got my ketostick to medium this morning, which I consider a victory. I think I was under 20 net carbs yesterday, which explains that. The chicken breast in olive oil with spinach, cauliflower, or broccoli sounds good to me! Hang in there, it sounds like you are on the right track to me.

Russ is right according to my reading! My keto stix are not very dark - ever. I once read something about ketone adaptation - your body adjusts over time. YOU are doing well so no worries. Dark on the keto stick is fat burning.

I don't know about the Keto, thing I know at hospitals most of the nurses and doctors who are over weight really frown on Atkins from when I was doing Atkins they think your crazy for doing it but if they would look in the mirror and perhaps try it; it would be a different story. I hope you have a great weekend and your son is feeling better

Ketostix only measure excess ketones in the urine. And yes, it's much like binary; you're either in ketosis or not in ketosis. A dark stick probably means you need to drink more water, but I would ditch the sticks, personally. You could be in ketosis and not show anything on the stick due to your body using available ketones, or if you had enough carbs to kick you out of ketosis and still had ketones still in your urine at the same time, that could show up as a false positive.

Warsaw Poland has a McDonald's Gym called McFit. LOL!! I just want to suggest something to the atkins dieters... I use to be on that diet. If possible look into going to the nearest health store and get a bottle of Chlorophyl. The liquid is a great sweet peppermint taste. It will bring bodies to an alkaline state to prevent any cancer in the body. Too much protein can make the body very acidic from what I have learned. I have the Chlorophyll after coffee for that reason as well.

Keep doing what you are doing, but drink more water than you are drinking.
