Up two pounds in a week. Not bad, considering that I only went to the gym once and got the rest of my exercise in the form of running around the county doing tenant move-out inspections. I've noticed that my burn is not exactly consistent from one day to the next, even if my activities are of the same frequency and intensity. I've decided that as soon as finances allow, I'm going to look into a bodybugg or Bodymedia FIT unit so that I can get an accurate read on my calorie expenditure.

My gym discontinued several of the classes I regularly attend for the summer, so I sat down last night and looked at the summer schedule. I think I'll mix it up by throwing in two Core and More sessions and dropping one TRX class. Until I can improve my core strength, the TRX class is not yielding a level of progress commensurate with my recovery time and I think I may be doing more harm than good by pushing it. They did move a few of the water classes back to evening hours I can actually attend, so I also added two more classes. In total, I'm engaged 6 days a week. I think it's time.

The annual Two Week Retreat from Meat starts today. Husband is going to finish off the beef fingers from last night and then our fridge/freezer is meat free. He's not looking forward to it, but the trade-off is that I'm not making him cook and several of our recipes don't utilize faux-meat. We're also going to stay lacto-ovo, because if I had to give up milk or cheese I would no doubt murder a tenant. You can't really get away from eggs either because a lot of meat replacements utilize rehydrated egg whites along with myco-protein. Seeing as how my hormones are very sensitive to soy protein, I had to do about half and half.

The best part of this is that I will be eating half my weight in watermelon over the next 14 days, and I will love it. The hardest part will be working in the two vegetables or fruits per meal, especially at breakfast. I hate eating breakfast.

Sorry I can't join your challenge right now, the timing's just not right for me. But I may give it a try later in the summer, I like the concept. Will you post some recipes? I've been trying to eat vegetarian or vegan at breakfast and lunch and save meat for dinner - works sometimes. I don't like breakfast either - but I can generally be persuaded to have some sliced avocado on toast, with a little lemon maybe and some salt. If I'm not being crazy strict I'll put a dab of butter on the toast too, but not a lot. Does lemon juice count as one fruit? ;-)

I'm counting a small glass of V-8 splash as one fruit for breakfast, definitely. Breakfast is just one of those meals where I can't eat it until around 9:00 am and then I'm just too busy. I usually get the bagel and eat it on my commute. As for recipes, I have several. I'll send you a link to my archive via PM.

Just remember to get enough calories per day to keep your body from going into conserve mode. That's been a task for me lately as I needed to increase my calories a bit to continue my weight loss. After that I stopped hovering around 8 pounds lost and now I'm about 11 pounds down from my start. This was something that I learned from watching the Biggest Loser. :)

two weeks without meat? That would be hard for me - here's hoping your hubby survives! Sounds like you have a great plan for your summer at the gym, but do be careful not to overdo - I learned that lesson the hard (thrown out back, out for months) way.

Unlike previous years, I haven't felt the wicked withdrawal from lack of meat. Maybe it's because we're already in the habit of eat smaller portions of meat or larger portions of vegetables. Maybe it's because Wisconsin beef and poultry isn't as full of hormones as their California cousins. Usually, I spend the first week wanting to french kiss anyone that eats a hamburger in my general vicinity just to suck the grease out of their mouth (hehe... eww.), but I haven't had that urge this time around. Unfortunately, work has made the gym a no-go this week and I'm not happy about it, but there's little I can do. We'll try again for tomorrow.
