Deb_N's Journal, 02 September 2014

Hello, everyone! Hope you are well. I used to look at people's food log to see if what they were eating would help my weight loss. That was how I learned about fiber supplements. Other people were supplementing their fiber and I realized that I needed to do that, too. The recommended daily requirement for fiber is 25 grams. Eat high fiber foods (there are low carb ones) to help you get to that level. My buddies have seen the list before, but new people maybe not. Good luck, everyone!

High Fiber Low Carb Food List: broccoli, cauliflower, blackberries, asparagus, celery, eggplant, Romaine lettuce, mushrooms, radishes, red raspberries, cabbage, bell peppers, Snow Peas (edible pod), zucchini squash, strawberries, flax seed, mustard greens, chicory, endive, collard greens, avocado, spinach, chard.

Thanks for sharing, Deb. I am actually surprised by eggplant and zucchini being included, they had never seemed fibery to me and I love them both :-)

Thanks for posting that. As it turns out I purchased fiber supplements just today. I've been surprised my system has been so sluggish with all the healthy food I'm eating. I never had that problem when I was eating junk. Go figure!

Aila, it may be that eggplant and zucchini that are not peeled are higher in fiber. I have to say that I have never eaten unpeeled eggplant, but unpeeled zucchini is ok. When cucumbers are too expensive, I will replace cucumber in a salad with unpeeled chopped zucchini.

I need to get more fiber, too. Thanks for the reminder!

Alia, the Japanese and Thai eggplant is better than the others unpeeled.

Add some ground flax seed to your diet for good fiber

I added ground flax seed, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds to my oatmeal. I'm not doing low carb, just medium carb, so oatmeal and apple and blueberries are in my menu plan daily. Once in a while I have 1/8 cup nuts. All of those things I eat are no salt. Watching sodium to reduce my high blood pressure.
