This is my first day back on the South Beach Diet. I used it for a while a few years ago, and it seemed to work really well. Since then, I fell off the food cart and regained all the weight and then some. I've decided to try again, with support from a couple of online communities this time.

My current plan is to say on Phase 1 for 3-4 weeks, before moving to Phase 2. The last time I was on SB, I only managed Phase 1 for one week, because of business travel -- I decided to move to Phase 2 early to make it easy to stick with the diet while I was away from home. This time, I'm over BMI 30 so want to stay in Phase 1 longer to jump start things.

Two big issues: my work schedule and my lack of support at home. I work 4 days a week, 13 hour days including my commute. That means I don't have much time for food prep. I deal with this by cooking a lot on the weekend. Also, I work at a place where there's chocolate out all the time to snack on and everyone loves pot lucks and bringing in snacks. I'm going to need will power -- and self forgiveness!

My other issue is that my husband is not at all supportive. He reacts to my efforts to lose weight and live healthier with anything from indifference to veiled hostility. He will certainly not inconvenience himself by keeping bad snack foods out of the house! More will power, more self forgiveness for slips. And looking for support elsewhere!

Enough for now -- first day not going so great since I guess I didn't bring enough food to work. So far feeling constantly famished, which isn't supposed to happen on SB. Will need to adjust for tomorrow!
