I talked to a friend at work. She told me what she does to stay fit. I had to tone it down because some stuff I was allergic too and also I dont go to the gym, reason being: I dont have even $5 to spend going to a gym. It all comes back to money is tight. I mean what I dont understand is why junk costs so little yet the good stuff costs so much. If he county is having a "fat" problem then maybe it should look at how it prices the healthy foods vs fatty foods a little more closely. Then add in how much most of us get paid, crappy btw. *sigh* I dont know. I want to have salads with lean chicken every night and protein shakes for snakes, be able to pay so much a month to go to the gym like I used to, and be able to get all the healthy food I can. But my paycheck barely allows me to get a bundle of bananas.

Where are you? We are careful and buy on sales. Chicken thighs will go down to 89¢/lb and you can freeze them until use (you can even cook them, chunk then, put them in baggies and then freeze them, all ready to just heat up and dump on your salad). Salad itself tends to be pretty cheap in one form or another, you just have to be flexible about whether that salad is going to be cabbage, lettuce, spinach or etc for the week. Frozen veggies is another thing that actually tends to be cheaper then cans on sale (as each bag has about the same amount of veggies as is in 2 cans) so when they go on sale stock up (we recently bought a bunch because they were down to 65¢ a bag a couple weeks ago), bags are much easier to find room for in the freezer then boxes anyways. Rice and beans are both cheaper foods also that is healthier for you then their pasta counterparts, so that is always budget conscious. I agree it's horrible we have to be so cost conscious on it compared to cruddy food, but if you watch the sales and keep an eye out it can be done =) Bananas are actually one of the foods that is normally cheaper then the crud food. If you buy bananas that are smaller you can get about 5 bananas per pound. Here in the midwest bananas are right about 50¢ a pound, so that's giving you a banana a day for 10¢.

The main difference between cost conscious healthy food and packaged food is that you have to put a little more work into the prep on the healthy food. You can get it for the same price or even cheaper, you just have to be willing to put some work into making it into the food you want to eat... but hey, that's more calories burnt =)

Oh man do I understand about not having money. I know exactly what you are talking about. I have started to find a lot of workout video's online, maybe that will help. I do recommend WWW.HASFIT.COM. They have a great selection to choose from. Best of luck to you on your journey.
