Bring on the beans, the peas and even a little fruit!! I am making a change with my diet. I am adding more carbs to my daily macros since I’ve been feeling run down ever since starting to work out. No longer can I dismiss the feeling I’m not getting all the nutrients required to feel well. I felt great on my current diet with little or no exercise, but now, with consistent cardio and lifting, it’s really wearing on me. My sleep has been better. I am getting at least 6.5 hours per night but still feel crappy.

I am changing over to a primal type diet. It is much like the paleo diet, except dairy is allowed. I was previously sticking to around 30g net carbs per day on the high fat low carb diet. I am going to raise carbs up to 60g per day from here forward. I have been operating in a solid ketogenic state for almost 7 months straight with only a handful of “cheat meals”. I have lost 43 pounds to date and I am back to my high school size. I have read about refueling your body once every couple of weeks with one high carb day but I don’t think that’s the route I want to take. I know me, and one cheat day will just lead to more.

I still plan to maintain a 500 calorie deficit so that I continue to lose the rest of my excess body fat. I still plan to avoid processed foods and most wheat products. I am hoping that the extra carbs might be what it takes to make me feel 100% again. I am really super excited about beans and peas. Black eye peas, pinto beans, butter beans, lima beans, beans - beans the wonderful fruit! I’m having field peas tonight! It’s the little things in life!!!

Average 135g daily protein per week
Average 60g daily carbs per week

I keep thinking about shaking things up a bit making a run at the LC WOE. I would have to learn a new way to drink coffee to start the day. Maybe that's why Torani makes a bacon flavored syrup :-) Field peas sound really GOOD right now. Check out garbanzo bean recipes - I have done the roasted ones - as good as peanuts sometimes.

That would be great Glenn! Make it a small bowl though, 60g carbs/day doesn't go a long way. ;)

Bella, low carb isn't all about bacon but on the internet the two have become quite tightly bonded. I have my coffee each morning with a tablespoon of coconut oil and heavy whipping cream. Before my diet I used sugar and artificial creamer. I really enjoy the "fatty" coffee now, don’t know how I enjoyed the other stuff. Bill, I think that’s a good move with the processed breakfast food. I have cut out almost everything that comes pre-made. There is a lot more cooking and cleaning involved, but it’s definitely worth it. One thing you can try for breakfast is make a large batch of “egg muffins” over the weekend then freeze them. All you have to do is take one or two out of the freezer then nuke them just like you do with the breakfast bowls. Last time I made them I put egg, onion, spinach, ham, cream and cheddar cheese in them. They were delicious. I have my recipe in my cookbook on here if you’re interested. Lastly, thanks rugrat! I appreciate the kind words. 

Thanks Brent - I know - there's more to it .. I was excited reading your food journal - the ATE thing or whatever it was - esp when I saw creme cheese and jalapenos .. I was just thinking about coffee without creamer ... wah... such a baby I am. I add the coconut oil too and could probably switch to whipped creme instead of milk... hmmm... anyway , I just realized it's spring going into summer and I WANT FIELD PEAS too! LOL. This would be like starting a diet on the week of Thanksgiving ... which I've done that too. Not abandoning it .. something to think about. Thank you for the explanation.
