TJHenggeler's Journal, 10 March 2021

Ok, frustration time. Not sure what is happening weight wise. I had one day, Sunday, of refraining from kcal counting, but the rest of the days have been normal/routine foods and kcal. And I am showing up by 3 blinking pounds. It’s not like I’m backed up or anything. Sheesh! To top it off I’m now beginning to question my scale, and it’s location of all things. Ugh!!!!

Thanks for listening!

What MM2 said. Not difficult to fluctuate 2-4 lbs per day which is why some like to use averaging techiques to smooth data. Stay the course! In the end, CICO wins.

MD here. It is absolutely normal for weight to fluctuate around 1-2 kg ( roughly 2-4 pounds) depending on water and sodium intake, diet, bowel movements and even outside temperature. As it was suggested in a previous commentc try averaging for a more accurate measure. Also, try to weight yourself at the same time, wearing the same clothes and in the same circumstances ( i try to do it first thing in the morning after nature calls, for example).

Don't stress about it. I know that's easier said than done. But particularly when you're losing weight, you will see ups and downs before you "settle" at a new lower weight, that's my experience anyway. I lost 2lbs one week, regained them on what seemed like the same calories, then lost them again on what seemed like only slightly lowered (100-200cals) cals and less activity. Keep doing what you're doing, observe the weekly and monthly trends for comparison. Daily changes are too influenced by water retention (changes in intake of carbs and sodium will affect this, stress, repair after intense activity) and BM to worry about too much.

When that happens, it's time to work on the inches:EXERCISE. Walking, Floor work, Stretches/ab-work, jump rope, etc. You need to be assisting your body into shrinking by keeping/staying toned and tight. That's a little more difficult as we age, but still accessible. Don't worry, above all, keep plugging away everyday. :)
