Welcome to my plateau. Other than one very welcome dip to 208.2 I have hung out in the 209 range for several days now. Now, the more rational part of me says the following ... this is normal, I am experiencing some hormonal fluctuations (the joys of being 50+), my rings are tighter indicating some water retention, this is what my body does naturally, ...

Of course my less rational emotional side is frustrated, anxious to "reach my goals", can't understand how I can exercise more and not lose, blah, blah, blah ...

Does this temporary stall really mean anything? No. I know it does not. It doesn't change anything. I have made good progress. I will continue to drink my water, eat when my body is hungry (that I must really pay attention to because when I'm in a plateau I am so tempted to not feed my body which I know is a HUGE mistake), and exercise. I will continue to feel good about me and rest in what I KNOW to be true rather than my fears.

My body will catch up with itself when it is ready. Life is too short for me to be upset about fluctuations. I WILL have weight fluctuations for the rest of my life. I'm not a pie that will someday be "done." Life is process not product.

So, here's to me taking a deep breath, accepting myself, and living today in what I KNOW to be true ... not what I WISH was true. Gee, those words sound good ... now it's time for me to get on my elliptical, feel the strength of my body and relish being long & lean, strong & tall, and patient (how are y'all doing with that patience thing??? I pretty much struggle with it EVERYDAY!!! LOL!!!)

Let's talk plateaus, I have been the same for over 3 weeks so do not get discouraged. At some point the scale will drop and mine will too. Keep eating healthy and working out. And have patience! :-)

Oh I KNOW you are so right!!! I just looked at my last plateau ... it was about 2 weeks long ... and it doesn't really matter ... I'll work on the patience thing ... I think that's a life time challenge!! LOL!!! Here's to both of us (and all the rest of your out there in Fatsecret land) continuing to eat healthy, work out, and LIVING life fully regardless of the numbers on the scale. Thanks!!

You know this is normal. I too have noticed this pattern with my weight loss sometimes one or two weeks I stay the same then I get a good weight loss week. Like you I know it is normal but hate hate hate it!!! Patience is not in my vocabulary lol so I feel ya. I just know that you know if we do whats right we will see results and that is what keeps us going. Hang in there big numbers coming soon!!

Thanks gals ... I got carried away on my elliptical and just got off ... an hour and 16 minutes ... got obsessed with reaching 1000 calories ... but I feel great!! I watch movies ... have you ever seen "Before Sunrise" and "After Sunset"? very non-action, lots of talking, kind of in the romance genre ... well I was watching Before Sunrise ... almost got through the whole movie, LOL!! I'm not giving up ... what's the use in that? I don't want to be where I was before ... not ever again. I've said that so many times but this time I want to change my daily ways and this plateau thing is a part of normal life. I don't want to be obsessed anymore, not by overeating or by restricting. So ... here's to all of us sticking it out and tolerating the idea that things don't happen when we want them to!!!

I learn so much from you every day. I love how you never let little details ruin the 'big picture'; the work of art as a whole. I need to learn the meaning of the word patience. lol

Good luck with learning the meaning of patience ... I fear it is a life time lesson!!! I sure don't have it down yet!!

Some people like to recommend a free day to break through a plateau and I believe that it has it's merits (I've used it to advantage). I like to do a fast (beat my body into submission?). I wouldn't blame you at all for doing neither. ;-)

A free day scares the bejeebers out of me right now!! LOL!! Lord only knows what I'd eat!!! I'm no good at fasts ... so much for submission! I think I'll wait and see what tomorrow brings and maybe I'll try something a little out of my comfort zone. Beside in a couple weeks hubby and I are going to spend a night out and go to a class together so I'll get an opportunity to eat in the real world!!

I don't blame you not to change what is proven to work well for you.

ah ... it's not that I don't "want" to change ... just "chicken" and I don't mean the boneless, skinless variety!! I was at a site that talked about rotating caloric intake ... and I keep thinking about it but their lowest caloric intake for me to lose is much more than I consume now ... hence ... chicken!!!

Ever think about weighing in weekly instead of daily. I used to do it daily and sometimes it was agonizing waiting for the move down. The water weight and when I eat fluctuations (if I ate late at night and weighed in next morn I could see a 1-2 poiund move. These fluctuations and plateaus that happen to me on daily weigh ins have disappeared with weeklys. One caution you have to really be disciplined about using the diet and exercise calendars for this to work but you seem to be good there. I am even thinking about going monthly when I get to like 200. Most of this is preference but just thought I'd share. Feel free to ignore this idea. Best

Aw ... Jim ... no ignoring here!! All input is welcome! Even though I have multiple ups and downs with daily weigh ins for me ... I have to do it to keep myself honest ... at least for now. I am such the Queen of Denial (and I don't mean the river in Egypt) that I bargain and kid myself when I weigh in less than every day. You are right though about looking at the week instead of the day. I do keep a weekly track on my own as well as month to month so when I get discouraged I have "facts" to help me regain my composure. Like you said ... different things work for different folks. Some day I will have a fluctuation up and I won't even journal about it!! Won't that be a GREAT day?! Thanks again.
