One week down, so probably a good time to reflect on my progress huh? I feel like I’ve been sticking to my calorie goal reasonably well, becoming more conscientious of the things that I put in my body. Overall I feel pretty good, and I’m thinking I can get used to this.

I have read a lot about ‘cheat days’, or days where I don’t restrict calories/restrict as much as usual being essential to sustainable CR. Anybody have any tips on executing this? Lol. I’m visiting my boyfriend this weekend and it’s tradition to have tamales, and we just enjoy eating and trying new foods in general. I’m not too worried about it, but I figured I could ask if anybody else has a cheat day ritual or method just because :)

I do diet breaks, unintentional surplus days, and even during the diet, I find it helps me to have higher and lower calorie days while still being in a deficit. None of it is necessary and there isn't enough research to show that dieting this way provides any physiological benefit, but psychologically, yes, it works well. I find that break my diet into phases of 2-3 weeks is much more sustainable than anything I've done before.

I include small quantities of treats each day so it might be a 14g block of Rolo chocolate or 34g of homemade choc chip biscuits. Savoured with black coffee does the trick for me and then occasionally I'll have a bowl of ice-cream or slice of cake. As long as it's weighed accurately and within your calories it's fine. Calorie cycling works really well for me so I have lower calorie days in the week and more calories to play with on the weekends. I then just aim for a daily average. Good luck!
