In general, I don’t like or eat seafood. However, I’m looking to incorporate tuna into my diet. Does anyone have recipes to help disguise the “fishy-ness” of the tuna? Low carb/cal if possible. I could make a tuna salad sandwich, and I think I could tolerate it, but I’d like to actually ENJOY it, and it would be nice to get some different ideas (and I’d like to avoid having to coat it in high cal/fat mayo). I would likely only eat this for lunches since the rest of the family dislikes seafood even more than I do. Thanks in advance!

Add lots of chopped pickle and green onion and a tsp of mayo to hold it together. A little bit of Frank's Red hot gives it zip too and will disguise some fishy-ness.

Thank you! I love Frank’s, so this is a great idea!

I’ve tried the skinnytaste tuna melts and they are delicious. I’ve added in my own things like pickles, celery, or even a little apple. Instead of doing full Mayo try doing half and half with plain Greek yogurt

When I was a kid and hated tuna salad sandwiches my mom had a version, add two hard boiled eggs (oddly I hated egg salad too) and it was delicious somehow?? Red Hot is great here too, it mixes well with tuna.

Thank you all for the ideas! Are there good recipes other than tuna salad sandwiches/melts that I should try? Salad, or will that still be too fishy?

You could try tuna cakes. There are a few on pinterest (search keto tuna cakes). I haven't tried any, yet.

You could add taco seasoning and warm it in a pan, then make fish burritos, tacos or a salad topping. You could also put this in with quinoa or rice. The canning process does eliminate the fishy aspect, for example canned chicken tastes far worse than tuna. I am from Atlantic Canada and grew up hating all seafood, especially Lobster.

Thanks! I actually liked fish and lobster as a kid but developed a distaste for them as I got older. I’d like to try to add some fish back to my diet, for variety and health purposes.

You can add a little bit of lemon juice or a squeeze of lemon to the tuna this will get rid of the rawness or fishy taste of the tuna if you want to eat the tuna in a sandwich i like tuna with green peppers chopped up with a little bit of mayo.

just a touch (no need to go full serving) olive oil miracle whip, or sriracha and lime juice

I like to put curry powder in my tuna along with chopped up celery!

Ditto on the lemon and celery. I add a tbsp of sweet green relish, tsp of horseradish and a squirt of mustard, which means I can use less mayo.

Well, I’m certainly not qualified to suggest what anyone’s RDI should be, but I will share that I aim for 1300/day and I have lost ~20 pounds since June. 1300 may sound very low, but I have learned to be very smart in my caloric choices and do not go hungry at this intake. Some days I go over and that is okay. Some days I eat fewer calories and that is okay, too. I have learned that low carb works well for me and I need to be mindful to get enough protein, especially on lower carb days. Not enough protein = hunger (for me, at least). Good luck!

try tuna steak instead on canned tuna, I find it's less fishy and you can cook it just like normal steak

I cut up dill pickle in my tuna salad. It’s delicious.

Some tuna brands tend to have more of that fishy smell, and in these cases I warm it up in a pan adding 1-2 tbsp of oil, it really helps!

try chopped apple and a pinch of curry seasoning

add it to a salad it’s a great way to get in protein and you can’t even taste it

Try Rainbow Trout, it's not fishy at all, and tastes like Chicken or unsalty Tuna.
