Notes from my vacation:

We went to Taco Bell and I tried to order unsweetened ice tea, they said, "...we don't have iced tea, we have fruit punch... how about lemonade?" I asked for bottled water, they said we don't have bottled water. I ended up getting tap water and still paying the price of the combo which was fine with me but sheesh, Taco Bell, you need to have at least ONE healthy (non-carbonated) beverage choice! Moral of the story, do not go to Taco Bell again, ever!

Restaurants serve meals big enough for 3 people and then they get pissed if you don't finish or you don't take it in a doggie bag. My waitress couldn't handle the fact that I was on vacation and didn't have a microwave in my hotel room with which to reheat left overs. I think part of the reason is that they figure they make more money the more food you order and if people start requesting smaller meals, they will also want to pay less for said meals. At this point I would be happy to pay more for a smaller meal just to be left in peace.

I got way more exercise during my vacation than normal but that didn't at all compensate for what I was eating apparently. I did notice something promising, though. There is this particular hill that I used to dread because I would have to climb it with co-workers going back from lunch to the office and even though I would try to hide it, I would always get red-faced, drenched in sweat and unable to talk from being out of breath by the time I reached the top of the hill. Well, during this vacation, I had to climb this very hill and I did it with no trouble! Now, I am not sure if it was because of the weight I have lost or just the fact that Columbus is lower in elevation than Phoenix, but it felt good!

The airplane ride was another nice aspect of the vacation. Travelled in coach and actually had to cinch the seatbelt a tad instead of sucking in my gut, praying to the seat belt god, and desperately trying to click it. The food they offer in coach was another matter. Note to self: bring own food with me on future flights. Side note: the TSA and airport staff in Columbus Intl. are MUCH nicer than any other airport I have been to and I have been to a lot of them.

All of my friends noticed that I had lost weight and congratulated me. I miss them so much. I need a teleportation device so I can live in Phoenix and still hang out with them every Friday night.

I had forgotten how miserable a hangover is. After not having any alcohol for 3 months, I have turned into quite the lightweight. I am going to have to be especially careful about this after I reach my goal weight. This is another one of those things that people love to pressure you about. Maybe I can convince people that I developed an allergy to alcohol, lol. I really hate drinking calories.

Most of my friends have actually gained weight since I last saw them. I wonder if I were to move back if I would have a positive influence on them or if placed back in that environment, I would gain weight, too. It does *seem* like there are more overweight people in Columbus. Maybe it has something to do with the cold weather and always being overcast. It was the first week of June and I was freezing most of the time I was there.

It does seem like everything in life is set up to gain weight, from the cheap nutrient poor fast foods that taste so good, to huge restuarant portions, to constant commercials for crap food, to friends and family that can't accept when someone wants to change their eating habits. Glad you had a good vacation, stay strong.
