flaxseed's Journal, 27 March 2010

My discipline has gone down the tubes today! Went to the farmers market and there is a fantastic handmade bread stall with about 30 different types of bread. I bought a small Rye and Pumpkin seed Sourdough loaf, lots of fresh local vegetables and a hand raised Gressingham duck, black cherry and port pie for OH and avoided buying one for me too. Great I thought. Things went downhill from there on. There was a letter on the mat when we got home saying whatever it is on OH's liver is bigger and he is to go in for a biopsy on 1st April. So that means he's going for the bladder op tomorrow, will be home Tuesday evening hopefully and then have to go back on Thursday. One planned slice from my loaf turned into the whole loaf, plus butter. It was very good but I wished I hadn't done it as soon as the last crust disappeared down my throat. Those negative thoughts about what might be are pushing to get to the front and its hard to keep them at bay.

Weather has been superb today - wall to wall sun. There's been a cold wind though. We took the long way home and I went for a walk in the woods with the dog. The daffodils are out in sheltered places now and I came home with a bunch that I picked that had been knocked over by the tractors. The snowdrops and winter aconite are still out so the whole place is blooming. My daffodils in the garden are still just buds. I'm still enjoying my stints at the charity shop but won't be able to go again til next Friday. I'm hoping against hope that the scale won't reflect too badly on my bread binge.

Have a gret weekend

It's hard to stay disciplined when life is tough. I'm sorry to hear about the biopsy and the bladder operation, you have reasons to be worried. I've had the same kind of binge lately... You and I know that eating a loaf of bread won't solve our problems, and will add to the negative thoughts. Are you going to cook this duck soon? Duck tastes sooo good! Have a good weekend as well

Ditto what jessy said. I'm sorry to hear of OH's evidently deteriorating condition. "I bought a... hand raised Gressingham duck, black cherry and port pie for OH." It reminds me of what wonderful bakers the British are. I am impressed even by the plain meat pies that one buys from the vending machines along the motorways. :-) That pie you bought sounds fantastic, no wonder you are slipping up a bit. I don't think it's possible to keep steady with breads and pies like these in the house. The same used to happen to me when I went to the farmers market but, these days, I limit myself to only the produce, sometimes some honey, and there is some excellent bread there which I indulge in from time to time. Our prayers are with OH and try to take care of yourself too flaxseed.

Reading Info's comment I realize I misunderstood you about the duck! I thought you bought a duck, but you actually bought a duck, etc... pie! Oh well, I'm sure duck in a pie will be delicious too lol!

I am so sorry about the news you rec'd. It is so hard to stay disciplined under such circumstances. It is understandable-truly. You will be back on track when it is right for you. In the mean time try to be kind to yourself in other ways if you can and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}
