Homework Assignment for HSM (half size me community) & journal entry

So, a few things Heather tasks us to do, which are beyond challenging but definitely worth the effort:

1. Get sane with scale
2. toss the notion out the door that we need to lose weight as soon as possible
3. Eat more to lose weight, and of course maintenance breaks, maintenance breaks, maintenance breaks

This might sound counter-intuitive to some folks, but bottom line there are actually people within the hsm community that are not only losing the weight, but keeping their weight off!

Getting sane with the scale has probably been the most challenging. But, there is an app called "happy scale" she has highly encouraged us to download. It allows the user to weigh in as many times as they want, takes all the fluctuations into consideration, and provides the user with a realistic moving average based on fluctuations. And, yes ladies that includes your monthly. So, in the HSM community, you're not allowed to get freaked out or to jubilant over the fact that you gained or lost 5 lbs in a week.

In fact, I came up .2 ounces less this a.m., but my technical moving average is 185.3, which is fine. What this allows me to do is STOP MAKING WEIGHT LOSS THE GOAL.

Oh yes, you saw it right. LOL. AND, I LOVE IT! Nope, weight loss is not the goal. Building healthy habits are the goal and weight loss is the by-product, because the bottom line is...

Weight loss is meaningless unless the habits are sustainable enough to ensure it stays off

As for the actual losing of pounds, all that matters is that I'm trending downward, but in HSM, one doesn't spend to much time talking about what they lost. The expectation is that non scale victories are highlighted and posted daily about what accomplishments folks are making in order to build healthy habits into their life in a way that genuinely works for them and that they can see doing until they're 6 feet under. To that effect, I have a few things to be thankful for and NSV's to enjoy.

1. 9 months later I'm still working out 3-5 days a week (cardio, strength training, yoga)
2. I had a successful 14 day maintenance break
3. I did not give up after a 65 day plateau
3. I no longer get blisters or heat rashes between my thighs because my thighs don't rub together
4. I no longer have love handles
5. I have gone from a 2X to a 1X and my clothes fit this body in a flattering way
6. Increased muscle tone and core
7. With the exception of an increase in monocytes, which is normal for folks with MS, my blood work is stellar

As Heather lovingly encouraged me to say yesterday,

I'm not going to do it

I AM DOING IT :-)

I'm not going to get healthy, I AM THE GOOD HEALTH I WANT TO BE! Now it's time to use some creativity and continue to build upon what has already been created.

To that end, I did accomplish all my goals last week.

-I did not partake in beer Thursday with the boys and I also cut out a martini out of my two drink minimum for my maintenance day on Thursday.
-I logged all my meals the day before and adjusted as necessary
-On Thursday, when my mother and I went out, I had already accounted for dessert and stayed within maintenance calories
-I made sure to take a maintenance day on Tuesday as well.
-And, I did make sure to meditate last week. In fact, I got in 3 good sessions.

This weeks goals.

-Eat 1420 cals on Monday, Tuesday, 1520 on Wednesday & Saturday, and 1950 cals on Thursday and Friday
-Friday's strength training workout will resume on Saturday to accommodate for Birthday celebrations
-Accommodate for Beer Cals first on Thursday, and a piece of birthday cake on Friday for maintenance cal days
-Get in at least 3 days of meditation this week

Have a blessed Sunday everyone!
