DairyKing's Journal, 27 March 2012

Yesterday was bittersweet. We started the day with an appointment with the Oncologist to get the results of the tests done on the removed tumors. Everybody was expecting this to be a non-issue. Unfortunately, to the surprise of everyone, including the Oncologist, the results showed her to be in the top category, at 28% risk, of cancer recurring within the next 5 years. That means 16 chemo treatments over the course of the next 20 weeks, followed by 5 or 6 weeks of radiation treatments 5 times a week. Today, she goes to have a central port installed in her chest, so they won't be prodding her veins like a pincushon over the next 20 weeks. Needless to say, she is scared and depressed over this news. She has a great support system - including me, but she already takes medications for depression, and it has always been a challenge to keep her spirits up.

In spite of all this, we had a great day out. We took along our daughter and her fiance (since her birthday was on the 22nd), and ate at two very nice restaurants for lunch and dinner. It was an oriental day for sure. We loved the Osaka Sushi & Hibachi Grill. The chef was quite an entertainer with a great sense of humor. A good time was had by all. I didn't get to bed until about 11:30 pm, so I had no intention of getting up at 3:30 for a workout. It would just have to wait.

Here's the birthday girl being honored at dinner.

Sorry to hear about the treatments. I'm praying for strength for both of you as you go through the process. It is not easy, but remember - if the lord brings you to it, he will bring you through it. Glad you had a wonderful day in spite of the results.

Sorry to hear this news ...thank goodness, you had planned to 'go out and celebrate' your wife's birthday, with family afterwards. At least it 'lightened' the mood after such news. all you can do is look on the 'positive' and pray for a good outcome. It must be tough on you too - the 'partner' is sometimes forgotten in all this. Keep your chin up, you need to be strong... We will all help x

Thanks guys! I hate dumping on all of you, but there is more to this dieting journey than just counting calories and punishing your body, isn't there? Every circumstance has some influence on our attitudes and motivation. Even if we never see each other face to face, it's encouraging knowing you have people lifting you up in prayer, or just providing moral support. You guys get to being like family after a while. Of course, unlike family, I only get to see your good sides. :D

Honey don't worry about "dumping" this on anyone. We're thankful you're willing to put yourself out here for all to see. If there is some measure of comfort or strength we can impart to you when you need it then we are all blessed to hold out whatever bit that might be available. I'll be praying for your family too.

I'm so sorry to read what your wife and you are going through. Know that people far and wide are thinking of you and hoping/praying for the best outcome possible. You are a wonderful man and I assume there must be something very special about her to have snagged you up those 30 years ago. :-)

I'm sorry you guys are going through this. You are all in my prayers. Lean on the lord for strength, he is always there for us. He never gives us more than we can bare. I'm glad you guys decided to stick to the celebration plans. You need the family time and laughs to keep you smiling. We are here for you anytime you need to let it out DKing. Have a great day.

Well, anyway, since we like to ride the motorcycle, and she doesn't like doo-rags, we looked at some wigs, in a catalog that would look really good on her. I told her that hair isn't what it's cracked up to be. There isn't much jewelry I can buy her anymore - she already looks like a gypsy, with 3 or 4 rings on every finger, so maybe now we'll get into the wig thing. It's probably good I converted the big bike to a trike; I'll feel more comfortable taking her on rides now. It won't matter too much if she gets tired; all she has to do is sit back and relax. The chemo doctor told her it's better if she still gets up and about, and does what she can, even though she is going to get tired more easily. Thanks guys for all your wonderful comments and prayers. We'll get through this, and be stronger for it.
