Sawdust's Journal, 21 December 2007

I actually started this diet when I came home from CCC, a show I was directing in Arkansas, on December 9. I'd been forced to eat restaurant food for 10 days and was feeling fat as a hog. I went to the doctor for a physical before eye surgery, saw the scale. 218 with clothes on. That kicked me over, plus the doctor urging me to take off a few pounds. Never been fat. But 60 isn't kid stuff. So I started dieting on Monday by my favorite method. Basically cutting calorie intake by half or more as detailed in my diet.

What went well this time was no sense of deprivation. On the 13th I went to visit my skinny son and his skinny wife and the four of us, my wife included, ate and drank well all week on small portions. My son and daughter split meals when we'd order out. Adrienne and I did the same.

I got home three days ago, had eye surgery, and will resume workouts today--40 minutes on low impact cardio machine, alternating with yoga.

Haven't felt hungry except when I needed something to be doing. As long as I'm engaged, I'm not hungry.

I'm taking two herbs--Carnatine and something else. Supposed to help with appetite. No hunger, but there usually isn't. My downfall is that I like to eat and I like that blotting out feeling as I'm stuffing, and that full feeling that comforts.

I'll try to remember to weigh tomorrow morning.
