diehard3's Journal, 13 August 2017

After a rough couple of days I marked another X on my calendar for a no cheat day. I weighed this morning and no harm done. Whew! It is cool today so I am making low carb vegetable soup from my own Fat Secret cook book. Yesterday I was busy all day, so no time to cheat or even think about cheating. We bowled a couple of practice games yesterday afternoon in preparation for league to start next Thursday.
I will have my 3yr old grandson next week due to babysitter problems. He tends to make me eat more than I want or should because I am always cleaning up what he wont eat because I don't want it to go to waste. I can't even explain where that philosophy came from. Wasting food was a big no-no when I was a kid. We are trying to potty train him and I have an anxiety about him peeing on my floors/carpets. I guess I have to be patient with him and help his parents the best I can.

We were all raised to not waste food. I need to get over it.

Thanks Elaine. I am trying to get over it. The last time we had the toddler for a visit I failed miserably. I ate everything he didn't and then some because I had these extra things here that I don't normally buy. He ate the inside of the Oreos and I ate the rest......

Toddler = constant demands on you. -- This is unappetizing, but I got over my ingrained waste-not-want-not by getting a worm bin. They can eat half their weight daily in food scraps. (Just no bread, onions, a few other things.) They produce castings = perfect fertilizer, if you have a garden.

I was raised to not waste food and even forced to sit at the table until it was eaten or until Mom would get frustrated and tell me to get up. So I was bad to eat stuff I didn't want to throw out. Then years later I realized it was better to throw it away than wear it. It was costing me money for dieting pills and gimmicks and it was bad for my health.

Fartblossem, I love your name, my dear mother rest her soul used to call me that when I was a child. I was painfully thin as a child, and stuttered, but boy did I ever outgrow that.

I had a thin friend and went to her house one day for lunch. She had a frosted angel food cake and we each had a piece. I devoured mine then watched her picking around the edges of hers. And I am thinking, "I could sure devour that piece, too." And then she said, "I've had enough and tossed it into the garbage can." And that is the difference between skinny eaters and fat ones. Note, I said eaters not people as I have known some skinny eaters who are fat. Genes are a bitch. And I do have to add that my friend in this story is now on such a strict diet for her and her (poor) husband that they will not eat out with friends. I think I would rather be fat.

Try giving him smaller portions so you won't have to eat what's left. When I feed my cousins that are that age, I give them a spoonful and let them ask for seconds.

Been there and done that re the cleaning up (aka eating up) grandkid's leftovers. Now the temptation is gone d/t living with my daughter. We try to eat healthy meals, and I measure things as well. Was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in March of this year, and have taken it seriously. Today down to 149.6. Started in March at 176. My numbers are looking so much better since losing weight. It is very encouraging. I find support from reading your journal entries, so thanks so much. I realize there is no end to my diet...it will be a lifetime challenge. But I am up for it.
