Revaudrey's Journal, 29 July 2017

I’ve got two days left on the Whole 30 program that I’ve been doing for the month of July. For those of you who don’t know, it is a temporary WOE (many people end up adopting it for life) that eliminates sugar, grains, alcohol, and dairy and invites you to eat mostly protein, veggies, some fruit and “good” fats (coconut, avocado, olive oil). And, of course, no processed food, fast food, “fake food,” etc.

It is not a difficult WOE, (honestly, I am accustomed to eating really great food and making all homemade food as a regular practice) and I expect that I will continue with it for a time. I feel great. My sleeping has improved and my attitude is better. Many people say that their energy is through the roof on Whole30. I don’t think I’ve experienced any change in energy, but I tend to be pretty unaware of my body and how I feel. Does that sound weird? After years and years of yoyo dieting, I can tell when I am gaining weight, (honestly, I can actually FEEL my thighs growing when I lie in bed! - I think it is water retention, but I can feel it!) and when I am overweight I feel pretty awful, but... I tend to be pretty clueless to other, more subtle changes. Whole30 has opened this up a bit for me, but there is still more on my journey to really being “in touch” with this thing that I live in, my body. (St. Paul calls it, of course, a “temple for the Holy Spirit” (I Corinthians 6: 19) but I have a ways to go to see mine as that.

So, on Whole30 has been great. You are not supposed to weigh yourself on Whole30 and there are some very strict rules, like, if you screw up at any time, you have to begin all over again. Well, I have not screwed up food-wise at all, but I have been continuing to weigh myself. So, Whole30 purists would say that I haven’t really done the program at all.

I miss a glass of wine, but honestly, that’s about it. I used to love, love, love cheese, bread, yogurt, ice cream, chocolate, cake, pie and I”m sure I’d be happy to be reunited with some of these things, but I really don’t crave them.

So- Since June 1 when I rejoined FS, I’ve lost 18 lbs. In this last month, on Whole30 (or my version of it, since I am a weigh-in cheater and can’t really call it Whole 30) I’ve lost 7. I have 14 lbs to go for my goal. I’d like to lose another 7 in the next month so that I could be close to my goal in time for my daughter’s wedding on Sept 9. I’ve been working out (doing a walk-run program and some light weights at the gym) and may need to step that up to make my 7 more lbs. goal by Aug 31.

That’s the latest. Sorry for the long post.
