If he was diabetic it would have been a different story. Insulin causes weight gain and eating just ice cream would cause a T2D to be releasing a lot of extra insulin that their body is resistant to. calorie in calorie out only works for healthy normal people with normal metabolisms

For EVERYONE. Sorry, there have been zero studies where fat gain/loss was any different when protein is equated whether the remaining calories came from fat or carbs.
