Cheeks's Journal, 02 February 2010

After 3 years of failed fertility treatments, we are moving onto adoption and are excited at the "when" instead of the "chance" at being parents. The meds and emotions have definitely taken a toll on my body over these past few years. I'm looking forward to focusing on the adoption process, and treating my body well and gaining back self confidence and preparing myself to be the best mom, phycially, I can be. Here's to a new me in 2010.

How long before you get your child? Is adoption a long process?

Where will you be adopting from? Within the US or abroad? Some baby is going to be very lucky you have made this decision! :)

Hopeful - we are just in the beginning stages of adopting. After a recent miscarriage, it was our last try at having our own, so we are in the beginning stages of all the paperwork. Homestudy can run from 3 to 5 months (hopefully shorter!) and then you wait. Chris - thanks, we have been looking forward to being parents for so long, so are really excited about adopting! we are going to go abroad, looking at Russia right now. Even looking for twins or siblings, so we'll see what happens once the homestudy is complete :) keeping fingers crossed :)

I am so sorry to hear that you won't be able to have children of your own, but as everyone else has stated, I am sure you will make great parents to a very lucky child through adoption. Josh and I are still going through the fertility treatments ourselves and thought we had an opportunity to try IVF, but that is slowly fading away as it appears our insurance is not going to pay for it like we were led to believe. With Josh being in the military and I not having the best paying job, we just can't afford the procedure. I am glad to see you back on the site. Congratulations on the decision to adopt and I wish you both the best!

That's great that you are willing to take on the challenge of two children at once. So often you hear that siblings were split up. It would definitely help w/ their adjustment to have a brother or sister with them as they come to make a new life here with you. :)

Thanks everyone! Mrsbarker, sorry to hear you are still going through fertility issues as well, and that sucks about the insurance! its just such a stressful process all the way around, and adding insurance not paying...just isn't right. Luckily the state I live in is really good with infertility, but its just so expensive even for the part we have to pay, that we made the decision that the last of the money we put aside for this process, would be better spent on adopting over the chance that the donor egg would be successful this time around. We knew we were going to have children, it was just a question of how, and this is the path we were given. Chris - We couldn't agree more. We've read a lot since we made the decision on adoption two children at once, that having twins or sibilings helps with their adapting to the new family, because they had each other, and have the love of each other. We are looking forward to this, and hope its a smooth process for us.

I've been away from FS for quite a while, but have often thought about you and your husband. Adoption is wonderful!!! Funny thing is I was the adopted child who ended up with fertility issues as well. So I had my Mom to help me out with all the emotions. You and your husband will be EXCELLENT parents!!! Congratulations and God Bless!! :-)
