Just checking in to unsubscribe and update my weight. Haven't been here for 3 years I guess. I never checked in regularly or stuck to a particular diet for any length of time.

I've lost almost all the weight I wanted to, and it turned out that what worked for me was falling in love. :) A long lost friend from 20 years ago found me online and we emailed for 3 months before planning to meet. With this new focus (love letters in my inbox!) I just lost my appetite, ate mostly fruit until dinnertime, at which time I just ate what I wanted. I still had seventy pounds to go, but I now had enough (barely) confidence to see him, and we had a lovely romantic long weekend in San Diego, where he proposed. Six months later we got married and now I live in England with him, his daughter, my daughter, and our baby boy. I know it's like a fairy tale and I can still not believe how everything fell into place.

The way I lost the rest of the weight was just to start to cook simply, without recipes, and not much salt. I've realised that we Americans really over-season (salt) our food (which makes us eat more) and we also tend to over-complicate recipes (at least I always did), to the point of it being easier to pick up take out too often, when all I really needed to do is throw a meat and some veggies into a casserole dish with a lid, chuck it into the oven and let it cook. I buy whatever meats are on sale and a bunch of seasonal veggies, and some frozen peas, rotate mashed potatoes or rice or pasta for the starch, and usually don't do anything more complicated than that. I don't use mixes or jars too often just keep stock cubes and lots of cans of chopped tomatoes, olive oil, you know the basics, around. I don't have many rules about what I eat, apart from trying not to eat too much bread. If I have a piece for breakfast then I will only have one piece at lunch, and I never eat bread with dinner anymore. I don't exercise apart from some yoga in the afternoon while baby naps. I do walk twice a week for an hour, very slowly, to the store with the stroller, because I don't have my UK driving license yet. So all of things things combined have contributed to a slow steady weight loss, and now I've finished breastfeeding, it's going even slower, but it's still going. It would probably help if I quit buying a chocolate bar to eat on the way home, but hey it's chocolate and I don't believe in depriving myself anymore. :) Sorry for this disgustingly happy story and I know it's not helpful probably, but I haven't had anything nice happen to me for 15 years, and I am really enjoying myself now and I deserve to! :) I want everyone to feel like this...
