Weighing my self daily and logging my food and drink allow me to determine better what I did if I stall or gain. But that's just me. Good Luck on your journey!

I agree weighing yourself everyday can give you an idea of how your weight fluctuates with water and etc. Your body will change slightly day to day so its nice to see the range your body is in. I dont personally weigh everyday but I feel like it could be a good idea

I weighed in daily when I first started. Watching the weight come off was exciting! And yes, you could see how certain times of the day, or what you eat affects your weight. But after a while the needle on the scale didn't move as fast and I started to get discouraged. Now I weigh in on Mondays and Fridays. Monday - to be accountable for the weekend and to start the week off right. Friday - to see how I did all week and motivate myself to stay on track for the weekend.

I do weigh daily but don't use the info as a judge of what I did the prior day. It's more to track my trends. For example, I know if I really go off the rails, it can take a couple days to show up and then a couple days after that to get things corrected. For water weight gain, that will show up immediately and takes about 2 days to get it gone. Just remind yourself that your scale isn't a weapon, it's a tool.

You gotta pick the right approach for YOU. Two main schools of thought - EVERY DAY and EVERYTHING ELSE. EVERY DAY attracts people who are obsessive about data, interested in optimizing a cut to maximize potential fat loss (like yours truly), pursuing a strict/aggressive goal, and/or using daily scale feedback to reinforce diet adherence. EVERYTHING ELSE tends to make sense for folks whose diets are "dialed in," (i.e. they are totally on top of their intake and know from past experience what results it will produce), don't like the emotional roller coaster that daily scale (water weight) fluctuations can precipitate, are relaxed wrt "optimizing" their fat loss, or are simply gaining weight.

I like that, "Skinnysecret!" Fatsecret is a weird name - I wonder if they were aiming for "fatsecrete" as we melt off the pounds? As for the question, I weigh every day because sometimes weight goes up for no particular reason. If I weighed once a week and it happened to be on that mysterious up day, I would be very discouraged indeed. Isn't it enough to try to constantly manage what we eat without a lot of extraneous "rules" like weigh once a week or once a month? This question comes up a lot on this site - people should just do what feels right to them, but I do hope they understand weight is quirky at times and you can gain or even lose not just because of what you ate yesterday. Many people get frustrated and think "I can't lose weight" and give up on a program that really is working for them.

An once or even 2 tenths of a pound is not significant due to water load differences. I like to weigh myself even more than once a day to see how my body reacts to certain foods, hydration, dehydration, workouts, carb/water bloat, etc. Now that I've done it for a while I try to predict my weight before I see it on the scale, from how my body feels...kinda fun and I am really close most times. I don't log all these weigh ins as the variance (3 or 4 pounds either way) is mainly due to changes in tissue water load...I do log weight changes (up or down) that are sustained when I'm hydrated.

Note also; my 700ml (21 oz.) water bottle adds 1.5 lbs to my body scale weight when consumed...when I go on a long endurance training session I'll lose several pounds through perspiration and expiration even trying to stay hydrated.

This site (and all these great people) has persuaded me to weigh daily, but I only post it once per week. I try to maintain the mindset of working toward a trending downward graph. I like the daily reminder of where I am but use it motivate myself toward a Monday a.m. weekly goal. Good luck Serengetti.

I weigh myself every day in the morning before I get dressed or eat. Same scale. I'm publishing my results weekly on Monday. That's for 2 reasons. My weight can vary day by day by a pound each way. Over a week it shows a trend. That way I don't post a happy 1 pound loss or sad a 1 pound gain when the next day it's gonna be the opposite. It doesn't take much water to add a pound so scales are misleading on a day to day basis. I prefer the fit of my clothes. Everyone has clothes that are tight. Wear something once a week even when you hate it for being too tight. In a month you will see a difference if you're losing weight. Clothes will tell you when the pounds are really going away. Good luck

I suggest you GOOGLE an article titled, "Why the Scale Lies" - fluctuations are natural and normal. If you must weigh daily, take an average weight after tracking a 7-10 day time period to know the true trend.

I think daily weighing is a good idea because it helps you keep on track. The key to it though is to weigh first thing in the morning when you wake up and to wear either the exact same clothes or no clothes for better accuracy.

Personally I do not use the approach of every day weight in for 1 simple reason. For me if I fluctuate up a few pounds in one day due to water weight (very easy to do) it de-motivates me and I find the next day even harder. I weigh in twice a week (Tuesday and Fridays) and I have strict rules for the days before (Monday and Thursday) such as sodium consumption and everything to that extent so that no factors can affect my weight from one weigh in to the next other than how hard I work and how little I eat. This gives a 3:4 day spread between weigh ins so the time is short enough that if I screw up in those days I haven't lost everything I've worked for! Hope this helps!

I weigh daily but don't get freaked out if it's up a little when I've been being good. Then I just chalk it up to water weight. But if it's up and I was cheating that week, it helps me behave better for a while because I could see the gain right away.
