New MrsRando's Journal, 30 September 2011

Think I might need a new scale. I got on the scale this morning and it was the same exact weight from yesterday. Of course I did the "wtf" thing and stepped off, waited a few seconds, and got back on. It was two ounces down! So.. I stepped back off, waited a few, and got back on. I was down another 2 ounces! So I stepped off, waited a few, got back on. I was up 3 ounces! I don't think it is possible to fluctuate from one minute to the next as I hadn't ate or drank anything and had already used the restroom. I'm not really sure what to think about that.

Yesterday I calculated my starting and current BMI. Starting was 30.4 (Obese) and current is 28.6 (overweight). I noticed this morning that my cheekbones are becoming more defined. The roll under my armpit has flattened out.

So, while I'm not sure what the scale is doing, I'm confident that I am still making real changes.

Is it digital? They tend to be "sticky" in general so everytime I use mine, I put part of my body weight on it first to get it to register a very different reading, then start over for my actual weigh-in.

Mine never seemed right and finally I splurged and bought a Withings scale based on a co-workers ravings and on line reviews. It tracks up to 8 family members and tells you your weight but also calculates your "mass" vs. "fat" pounds and your BMI. It also connects to your wifi so you can track on your computer or moblie device. It truly is the coolest thing. It is expensive though but a b-day gift to myself :) My other scale was never seemed to agree with my doctors scale (to be fair, my old scale was a cheap Target scale). If you are interested go to www.withings.com for more info.

Thanks ladies. I actually had a gift card to Bed, Bath, and Beyond so I went to buy a new scale. I got the Weight Watchers scale that calculates BMI, body fat, and bone mass. I took it out of the box and the DARN thing doesn't WORK! It weights but I think the set and arrow buttons are broke :( So, I'm heading back tomorrow.

The Withings scale sounds cool but if I was going to splurge on anything at the moment, it would be a bodybugg (since a new scale is probably not going to miraculously get me to a lower number that's been eluding me...) I actually have the WW scale from BB&B- it did register a pound and a half over my prior scale, but you just have to go with it. It has been cool to track my body fat % and see it drop over time. :-)

Thanks Gnat. I had to take that scale back. It wouldn't allow me to set my personal numbers. I took it back to exchange it and that one seemed to have the same problems. The arrows didn't work. So I got another one that I really like and me and my hubby both have our profiles set.

I think i should upgrade also. I have a digital scale that is about 7-10 years old and i sometimes weigh myself three times in a row until the scale makes up its mind about how much i weigh. But it tends to be very close to the doctor’s measurements when I go, so maybe just a fresh set of batteries will do the trick. How long is a scale supposed to last?
