EmTheQueen's Journal, 23 March 2016

Lately I have been working more on things revolving around my Cherokee ancestry. I have been teaching myself Cherokee, reading more on the history and culture and, for the better and worse, looking more into traditional cooking. There are a lot of things involving fish, poultry, beans and vegetables. I have also showed my mom and sisters just how good my bannock is. Well, now we have a big batch of bannock in the kitchen. Fortunately they are extremely low sugar, and by extremely low, I mean zero. And they are made with whole wheat flour instead of white so they aren't bad on calories and are great for days like today where I simply didn't get enough calories and was crashing. My sisters love my bannock for a dessert (covered in powdered sugar and dipped in hot chocolate) and I looooove a piece of it smothered in chilli <3
Anyway, that's all for now. ᎣᏍᏓ ᏒᎯᏰ ( goodnight!)

Thanks for the mention of the bannock Em. I'd never heard of it so I did a bit of searching. It sounds really interesting! I found a recipe made with wheat and oat flour. If you'd be kind enough to share your tried and tested receipe too that would be great!

Very exotic and very interesting indeed! That's awesome too to find a culture which is yours and to be able to explore (plus keeps mind off food!!)

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/6919/bannock/ Here is the recipe, Vickie :D Yes, I am very proud of my Cherokee roots and started doing more things with the First Nations room in middle school and high school. I have only recently been able to get my act together and truly start learning the language. I have made flash cards for all 85 characters and learned about half of them and have been working on common words and phrases, as well as some more abstract words.
