A big thank you to HCB for your recent journal on the importance of defining goals and writing them down. Last night at a church based healthy eating/living group meeting we also discussed the importance of focus and goals. Defining goals, writing them down, and sharing that with at least one other person makes it 95% more likely the goals will be achieved.

I've been in a mental funk lately, dealing with some of the issues in life that we all have from time to time. That translates to negative thoughts and going off track with my eating. If there's any good news it's that I've stayed in the same area of mid to upper 190's. But I need my focus back, I need a specific goal to work on reaching.

Had a good talk after the meeting with my wife and another couple we're close to...it helped a lot and I feel like I can get my mental focus back to where it was and needs to be. I'm setting a goal for June 1: Be at 180 lbs or less. Lose body fat while gaining muscle mass. Get there by a combination of diet/macro targets and strength training. The goal and path to getting there is nothing new, but setting a target date (and sharing that) is important.

"mental funk". That sums me up perfectly. I will strive for "mental focus". Thank you for putting into words what I could not. I must do this!

what helps me is when I get tempted to fall off my goal trail I visualize myself AT my goal. And I get super excited and push the temptations away. Of course everyone is different when it comes to motivation. But when I find myself wanting to even nibble on a piece of pasta my boyfriend is eating. I rethink about myself in my bikini all lean and strong-then I am not tempted anymore. Give it a try!

Rckc - I'm glad if anything I said is helpful to you. My natural tendency when I'm struggling is to be reclusive and keep to myself. So being open with it helps me.

@Panigale1199: I'm visualizing myself in a bikini, but somehow it's not having the same effect? :) lol...seriously I know what you mean and appreciate it...that is good advice. So I'll visualize myself on the beach with six pack abs.

Haha!!! I had a feeling you would joke about the bikini thing! :) But yeah visualize you with your ripped six pack and how awesome you will feel in your own body.

I think the dreariness of winter has been hard on a lot of us. But sounds like you will turn this around. Best of luck reaching that June 1st goal!

Glad you are getting your focus back. I got mine back from something Mom2boxers said - can't remember what it was, but the point is the focus is back.
