GlennM's Journal, 16 February 2016

I am doing OK. I am still getting over my best friend's suicide. It will be four weeks ago tomorrow since he passed. It is in a way like he is still here (denial) even though I was in the hospital room when he passed away. He was a good friend for five years. He was off his mental health meds. I will do a weigh-in - in about two weeks. I am NOT getting enough exercise in as the weather has been very, very frigid so I am not going out and getting any walking in. I have my friend's two cats. I have another (my deceased mom's) and an older dog I have had since February 2, 2009. The dog is 16, but healthy. The cats are younger animals. I am ready for spring. In two months it will be here. I am self-publishing my first book in about six weeks. "Beyond the Wilderness" will be out by then, it is historical fiction set in the 17th Century, mostly in the New World, it is in the process of being made into a book now. Two more long books will follow this next year or so. I am writing Book Eight now. Dieting going OK. I went to the movies last night. I saw the action movie "Deadpool" - I give it an A minus, violence and lots of foul language, but better by far than most of the trash that Hollywood puts out, not for under 13 in my opinion, and some people had little kids in there. More comedy in it than many comedy movies.

What a terrible thing to happen. I hope that the companionship of the animals helps somewhat. I would suggest seeking out the company of family and/or other friends as much as possible, and taking advantage of even slightly warmer days to bundle up and get out for a walk. Two more months is a long time to be cooped up. I'm a fan of historical fiction, and look forward to your new book. Will it be on Amazon?

Oh, God. How awful. If you ever want to talk, PM me. Grief is so hard. Good luck with the book!

Hi, everyone. My book is historical fiction... about a priest who comes to the New World. (First book) almost 400 pages. It will be on Amazon in about 6 to 8 weeks. It will be under the pen name Glenn Colby. Colby was the last name of a second great grandmother at birth. My last name is Polish, ethnic, so this is easier to remember. A second book will be out in September - also historical fiction, set in Puritanical New England - during the late 1600s and early 1700s. I think both books were fun to write, they took years, and perhaps may even make it to the big screen as movies one day. If they do - I would like cameo roles in my book's movies. The third long book is a western over 700 pages - on a wagon train going west with multiple characters. I am writing Book 8 now, almost done with the final draft, it will the first of three books in a fantasy/science fiction series. ---- I was with my friend when he passed, he was in a coma for a few days, about four, he took a bunch of pills. He was a very good person, he had learning problems, he had mental health issues and financial stress and it was all too much. He leaves many behind - and all of us miss him terribly. I believe in an afterlife, and hope to see him one day again... too much pain and suffering here - there was for him. He was seven days short of his 50th birthday, I thought he would be around a long time. Don't take anyone you care about for granted. ---- I will be self-publishing the first three books probably all this year. I am aiming for a big publishing deal, if it does not happen it is OK. I think it will happen when God wills it so - that the books will get out into the general public in a big way.

The first book is "Beyond the Wilderness" it is about a priest who comes to the New World to minister to Iroquois Indians with others and flees a village. He and others go out into the wilds, on a journey of faith, hope, courage, with unexpected consequences. I will mention the release date. I think one day it may be made into a movie.

Thanks for the movie critique! I go to most the movies. My wife is a psych nurse, and she says lots of trouble can happen when people go off their psych meds. I'm truly sorry for your loss. A writer, that is real interesting. I taught writing in HS. One of my friends was living with a young girl, that was writing scripts, and Aaron Spelling liked her writing, and she became a writer of a Spelling series about the South. Said bye to my friend. lol

Yes, Warren - my friend was on and off his meds. He just was not in a good place mentally. He was not well in many ways. He was in financial stress too. It has caused me a lot of stress. In many ways it has made me wonder about life and God and all sorts of things - as there were so many small things that could have (just small things) that could have changed or kept my friend from being successful with this suicide attempt. It made me wonder how much control do we really have over things...

Glenn, you know I feel so spoiled, and I try to help others, donate, even donate my rare blood to save babies lives, but I'm disheartened about so many, many homeless. They live in flooding pipes here in Cali. I go to the gas station and they are in numbers panhandling. It's a crazy world. Important to keep you problems in perspective. It's all about attitude, and glass half full attitude. It's age now, that is a battle that doesn't really get better. Lol I have lost so many close friends. We are lucky to be here! Always remember that!
