Sharons Victory's Journal, 10 February 2016

ok so I began trying to lose weight again on January 2nd after gaining A LOT of weight over the previous couple months.

After coming back I've been tracking all foods and working out 5 days a week. I immediately lost 7lbs the first week, then my weight did this little 1-2lb fluctuation for about 2 weeks and I got frustrated and started drinking and cheating on the weekends again.

After all this I finally realized if I want to lose the 20lbs I want to lose by summer I absolutely can't be drinking alcohol until then...

When I drink not only am I consuming extra empty calories I also a lot of times have tried to not eat hardly anything that day so I could drink and end up being starving when I'm drunk and eating EVERYTHING.

I've officially been fluctuating the same 5lbs for the last month :( it's so frustrating when I'm doing spin class 3 days a week and weight training and only eating 1200-1500 calories.

HAVE TO GIVE UP THE BOOZE!!!!! R.I.P. BOOZE :( :( :(

Unfortunately, for me, giving up booze also feels like also giving up my social life,it's all my friends ever do :(

Couple of thoughts/tips: 1. eat your calories, never drink them (alcohol or other high calorie drinks like juice, etc.); 2. physiologically speaking, I believe there is evidence that alcohol actually promotes fat storage/gain (see scoobysworkshop.com for short article on the topic); 3. Socially speaking, Hang out with those friends one night and drink nothing but water... and observe... you will have a whole new paradigm though the eyes of sobriety! With nutrition alone, 2 lbs of FAT loss per week is feasible for your current weight. so 20 lbs before May 1st is possible. 85% nutrition, cardio and resistance training covers the other 15% AND changes your metabolism. Track foods well and you should have no problem reaching your goal and then some! Good luck!

thanks! :) I don't know if I have enough strength to go out and not drink with them...I usually cave because 1. I'm not having fun without being drunk or 2. they keep asking me why I'm not drinking and treating me like I'm not fun if I don't drink...so hence having to give up my social life :( I guess this journey just brings a whole lot more other issues to light!!!

So true about the booze. "Don't drink and eat" should be our slogan! What if you filled up on healthy stuff like lots of raw carrots, broccoli, etc. right before you went out and then allowed yourself one or two lower calorie drinks only to get the buzz and have a little fun? The eating everything behavior comes partially from feeling you've been depriving yourself and partially from feeling like you're already cheating with the booze. Maybe if you made a plan and could feel like you were sticking to it rather than keeping yourself from having a good time then you could both have some fun and be proud of yourself for sticking to a plan. Of course, the no alcohol option could be very effective, make you proud of your self-restraint, and allow you to be everyone's designated driver to get everyone home safely. Good luck with whatever positive (and temporary) choices you make for yourself!

thanks for trying to make a plan for me to still have a life lol...I've tried so hard to keep it in moderation but I have this rock star side of me...once I get 1-2 in me I go to town lol. I'm better off just not touching the stuff...I don't have to have booze at all...just miss the emotional release and social aspect of it but I'm trying to find other social things to do and other ways to get a release...it honestly feels good to not drink my body feels better! I stopped for a month once and lost FOURTEEN lbs in one month not changing anything other than the booze! :sigh: just have to figure out what I want more!

Great self-knowledge and decision making! You can do it, especially when you know it worked before. That can be a huge reinforcement! Good luck!

My diet says, if you must drink, drink wine or hard alcohol, but forget beer.

Sometimes you have to take drastic measures to make improvements, the old new playgrounds and new playmates philosophy. If they're really friends they won't pester you to be a lush.

I'm in the same boat, I love alcohol! I'm only drinking wine since I'm in a no wheat diet, but I'm willing to give it up on weekdays and just drink on weekends, I want to give it up completely until I get to my ideal weight 115 but it's so hard! I actually gave up alcohol twice already the first was for a 1 1/2, the last one was for 6 months, and now just giving up on weekdays. But if there's a will, there is a way, wish you luck!

Ethanol Alcohol is the issue..... When your body gets that from drinking booze, it burns nothing else... You effectively shut down fat burning fire as long as it takes to process

so me being drunk Friday-Sunday is no bueno lol...yeah...:sigh: giving it up....have a feeling I'll need to journal a lot more often. I get scared on Fridays because i know that's when the temptation begins. Maybe I need to consciously fill up my days with preset plans for the entire weekend to keep myself busy? Hikes 'n' stuff!

Hike's 'n' stuff is a great idea, find non-alcoholic functions to attend. Believe it or not there's a life beyond booze out there!
