Ceebee's Journal, 01 September 2011

So today was kinda topsey turvey.. I made cookies and I only had one. I took my kids to a play date (hence the cookies).. and it went ok.. but the boy and my son were pretty much fighting over a girl that was there.. My son is 6 and this boy is 7 and the girl is 5 or 6 and I am not ready for this. The boys took off their shirts and were wrestling the play kept getting rougher and rougher and I was not comfortable. Then one got hurt and the fun turned sour.. they were both trying to impress this little girl.. I am just not ready for this. I want my boy to stay my boy and not pull of his shirt and beat his chest like some ape. I am feeling sad anyway because both of my kids will be in school now.. one in kendergarten and the other in first grade and then to see my son behave like that over a girl.. it is just too much. I know they must grow up but I am not ready. Everything is fine on the diet front.. just sad on the mommy front. Have a good night everyone.

Hugs, Ceebee! I don't have kids yet, but I can only imagine how this will feel when the time comes and it seems it starts younger and younger!!

It does seem to start younger for sure, my son is 28 now and he was not doing that when he was 6 LOL but the girls were.......how things change......

I remember being the little girl in that kind of scenario! Oh it was so silly but back then it seemed contests were the only way for me to pick which boy would be my boyfriend lol. I lived in an apartment complex and the boys would do pull-ups on the back of the steps.

Ceebee - you can use this as a teaching exercise! Tell them how girls don't like it when boys fight - they should instead compete by being the nicest to the girl - draw her a picture, pick her a flower, etc. My sister does this with her boys and now they don't miss a chance to give a girl some flowers (especially their auntie!). It's so sweet!!! I have girls, so I would use this as affirmation to what I've been telling them all along - "Boys are dumb" LOL

I remember growing up with all boys and this was pretty natural. You can try to do what Tglenna said BUT you know that saying... "boys will be boys." Kids seem to grow up so fast.
