Well life is forever bringing obstacles as well as opportunities. I have developed a health issue that I have to take prednisone for. In the past when I have taken prednisone I have gained between 5 and 10 pounds for each use. This is really frightening me as I don't want to gain the weight back. Weight goes off slowly enough. If anyone has had to be on prednisone and managed to keep their weight down I would like to hear about how they accomplished this. At least between the inhalers and medicine my cough is abating and my risk of breaking ribs coughing is no longer an issue. With Reactive Airway Disease I have had this happen before and it is no picnic.

Hi Caroldiff- I have acute lymphoblastic leukemia and when I was first diagnosed, I had to take 100 mg of pred a day (AHHHHH!!!) for 2 months, now I take 64mg a day 5 days a month and have done so for 2 years, so I have struggled with pred weight too. But I found that I have to absolutly watch what I eat (i.e. count calories along with being on Atkins) so I don't overeat and then try to eat as little salt as possible to deal with the bloating/water-retension that comes with pred, I also drink about 90 oz of water a day to deal with this. Also, since pred gives you crazy amounts of energy, I try to exercise (I usually walk a lot) if I am really hungry (which I often am on pred) to balance my calories. I have actually lost weight doing these things, so I hope it helps you as well. And I am so sorry you have to be on pred- I am pretty sure it is evil even if it does great things (like help cure cancer!), it is really hard to be on. Good Luck.
