Started my weight loss journey again today after a 1 week break that made me gain 4kg.

Day 1
Non-Fast Day and I went slightly over my RDI but I kept it low carb as :
CARBS : 21.50g
FAT : 146.69g
PROTEIN : 299.52g

That's a nice solid start with tons of protein and fat :) Tomorrow is my Fast Day so I'll weigh myself unofficially on Saturday morning to see what 2 days can do for me.

Diet Calendar Entry for 03 September 2015:

Hey my bud that is a truck load of protein. Did you know that excessive protein can inhibit fat burning due to a process called gluconeogenesis. Check it out. Good luck with your fast today. Go get em tiger!

yeah, agreed, even thou you're eating alot of protein...too much will slow down fat burning to the point of standstill and all you'll end up doing is burning protein and not any fat....you might see a drop in the scales but it wont be from fat

also, that amount of protein is usually what body builders consume due to excessive weight training and to prevent muscle catabolism

Agree. Unless you are doing major body building everyday, various studies show that there is no benefit in eating more than 1.5 grams of protein for every kg of body weight. Else the excess protein is converted to glucose which is counter productive to a low carb eating plan. This is why high fats, moderate protein and lowish carbs is the recommended protocol.

Also because the 5:2 diet is relatively new, there arent many "rules" to follow but i have read cases where people over consume protein and it gets converted into glucose and because the carbs break down first and gets used for energy then the extra glucose from the protein gets stored as fat ie a stall in weightloss

Very good points and thanks LCFF and Ibiza122. I'm happy to report that I weighed myself this morning and I've lost 1.2kg since yesterday's weigh-in of 117.2kg :) My unofficial weight is now at 116kg. I think daily consumption of excessive protein will be counterproductive but when one is combining it with fast days + weekend of carbs then one may just get away with it. Perhaps I've found the right blend of using multiple protocols like Intermittent Fasting, 5:2 Fast Diet and Low Carb eating but time will tell. Also keep in mind that I'm a big built guy so my standard muscle mass is possibly more than that of a small sized bodybuilder that weighs in at maybe 70kg to 80kg. I won't stick to high protein days constantly but let's see how it goes if I keep Thursday and next Tuesday as high protein days.

your weight will drop, that 4 kgs will come off within a week to a week and a half because it is mainly glycogen levels in your muscles that were just being replenished....Also body builders of 100-120kg eat abit less then that amount of protein but do what you feel works for you as long as its sustainable andhealthy for you in the long run

Those bodybuilders are eating that amount of protein daily so it will be interesting to see if I'm breaking the mold with this experiment and I love experimenting :) Once I get back to the 112's then I'll know for sure if it's helping with the weight loss itself. I think Ibiza122 is 100% right in saying that I will lose the weight I gained in week very quickly as it's not existing bodyfat that is being lost. Let's wait and see how this goes.
