Michael-Anderson's Journal, 25 March 2015

Went to see my neurologist today as I do every couple of months. In the procedure room he was looking through my charts and stuff when he looked up at me and said this "Mike you are loosing to much weight to quickly and you need to put a hold on it for a week." "You need to eat enough to slow down your losses." My jaw hit the ground, I would have never thought I would hear those words from a doctors mouth. Please keep in mind that he was looking at a weight from three months ago when I was at my heaviest 335 (weighed in at 313). I was over joyed and I even tried to do as doc said. I went to pizza hut for dinner (buffet night) and caught myself scrapping off the toppings. I ate till I was sick, looked down and seen I have scrapped only 6 tiny pieces, 1/2 salad, and three cinnamon sticks. I laughed, got up and left.

DO you have a long term plan with your Doctor? Is he suggesting any alternatives and healthy programs? Do you plan on following a nutrition based weight loss and exercise program?

You seem to be losing fine. That's only twenty something pounds in 3 months. Don't know why your doctor would say that its too fast. I don't think he meant for you to go out and binge. You don't want to go back to your old habits. Keep eating healthy and exercising. Did he explain why he thought you were losing too fast? Nothing wrong with having pizza and stuff you enjoy sometimes. But I would keep it in moderation so you learn to enjoy the foods you love but keep the weight off. If you think you are losing too fast, up your calories a little bit. But 2 pounds a week is normal safe weight loss.

I agree with Suzi161, Michael. Changing our habits is the most important part. I am glad you had a positive visit with the doctor.

Well this is the second time to write this, my computer went manic for a minute. Over all yes this much weight is fine over that length of time, however, I started the loss about 10 days prior to joining all you fine folk which was about 3 to 4 weeks ago. Suzi161 I went for Pizza with the thought of just killing it, but that is why I was laughing, I would have hated to see what the damage was if I didn't eat just the topping (beef, sausage, cheese, mainly) and the slices were so tiny too. I once was told that (don't know if it was correct or not)the reason for a body to plato is that it has become conditioned to the amount of cal's, carbs, and so on that it was using. What I was told is that when you Plato you need to shock your system for two days by increasing the carb, fat, and cal intake and then return to the way you were. Something like it is supposed to fool your body into thinking a surplus is available when its not---or something like that who can remember. There are no worries from this camp as to me returning to the "old" ways. I am no longer in a codependent relationship with food, my body will get what it is given and that is it. I do plan to become more educated on the nutrition aspect of things so I can treat my body better for the long haul.
