Deb_N's Journal, 04 January 2015

Hello, everyone. Thanks for all your support and comments on my previous journals. I've learned so much from all of you. I usually write things in my journal that I want to remember because who knows, I might get Alzheimer's like my maternal grandmother. I hope not and I take care of my brain by taking my vitamin, eating right, walking, reading and keeping in touch with others. When I have half an hour I play a video game that requires thinking, not shooting somebody. lol

I sometimes write things that will help somebody else. This may not help anybody, but I want to mark this day by remembering that ESPN anchor man Stuart Scott passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was a positive person and after the story about him and comments from others, it said this:

Scott was honored with the Jimmy V Perseverance Award, named for the late coach and broadcaster Jimmy Valvano, at last year's ESPY Awards. [I also admired coach Jimmy V.]

"When you die, that does not mean you lose to cancer," Scott said. "You beat cancer by how you live, why you live and in the manner in which you live. So live, live, fight like hell. And when you get too tired, lay down, rest and let someone else fight for you.

"This whole fight, this journey, is not a solo venture. This is something that requires support."

For those battling cancer, stay strong. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Livestrong.com

I just read about Stuart Scott passing away. It is so sad. His words are very inspiring. We all know someone who has or is battling cancer and we should keep them and their families in our prayers.

Stuart was by all accounts a great man. He has long been one of my favorite sports reporters. Not only was he covering the sports we love, but he was fighting a personal battle with cancer and raising two beautiful daughters. My thoughts and prayers are with his whole family.

Can't say that I know anything about Mr Scott, but, as a nurse, I can say his quote about the fight with cancer is right on the mark. I agree, Well said.

I am not a sports fan, & didn't know Mr. Scott either. But I did read the news of his passing, & am praying for his family, friends & fans. Doing what we can to help & encourage others is always a good thing. It makes us & them feel better. It can be a good example for others to aspire to, inspiration to "pay it forward", & can leave a lasting legacy for the future. I'm also very thankful for the encouragement of my FS friends, including you Deb. I applaud your continued success, & am encouraged by you that I can also change to a healthier, stronger & thinner lifestyle. I look forward to joining you & giving you a big FS hug one day at the Goal Weight Finish Line, & being able to enjoy being more active & able to keep from ever feeling fat, weak, sick & helpless again. That will be so AWESOME!!!
