healthymomma's Journal, 06 October 2014

Here I go again... I'm going to be 40 in 10 months, and I really want to win this battle of the bulge, for good! I've been up and down, down and up, and I need to get this under control. My mother passed away at 59, due to diabetes related issues. Now, my physically fit 76 yr old father was just diagnosed with it, too. I'm seriously pre-disposed to the disease, so tackling this weigh loss is not a casual thing, anymore. I'm developing back and ankle issues, and this is not something I'm used to. Though I've been heavy for just about all of my life, my body has never sent me signs that it was not happy with the extra luggage I've been carrying around. Keep me encouraged, FatSecret!

Wait until you turn 40. That seems to be the magic number. Suddenly your body will tell you exactly how unhappy it has been the last 40 years. You can do this! You know how bad diabetes is. Don't eat your life away.

I waited until I was 60 before getting it together. Proud of you for doing it now. Always remember your mom and dad and their health issues. You're absolutely right about being pre-disposed to whatever illness haunted them during their lifetime. A link for you. Something I learned while I was in the hospital when I had a stroke. www.diabetes.org/living-with-diabetes/complications/heart-disease

It seems that lots of us join FS, our weight goes up and then we get really serious about doing everything it takes to begin steady loss. You are so ready to feel better than you think you can. A predisposition is not the whole story. You can stack the odds in your favor by making changes now. Besides, with weight loss, your feet and joints will be happier, people will make comments that note your hard work to get healthier and then buying clothes in smaller sizes is fun too. Come on down, FS buddies are here to support you as you make healthier changes. J
