So I finally got around to going to the doctor to check on the diabetes. I've been putting it off for way too long. The results were really dire. This has got to get me back on track; the alternative is serious health problems in the near future.
I've been planning to get back on the SlimFast diet, but the doctor says I need to stick to a three meal a day schedule, to allow the blood sugar to fall between meals. That's going to be a challenge. When I go too long between meals, I find it very difficult to control the amount I eat when I finally get to meal time.
Fortunately, he didn't give me a set menu to eat. The last time I consulted a doctor, he wanted to eat nothing but tofu and seaweed (or at least that's how I remember it). This doctor just told me to stay away from fruit juices and sugary drinks -- no problem on either count -- and avoid snacks. If I get hungry between meals I'm supposed to pop a sugarless mint. Sorry, but that's not going to help.
Anyway, I've got meds that are supposed to lower my blood sugar, and I've got one day at a good calorie level, and I've just got to make it work. I go back in a month to see what progress I've made.
