Johanne's Journal, 15 March 2011

I taught at the seminar this weekend and earned enough to start my reward bracelet. It's a Pandora charm bracelet and I'm doing one bead for each 10 pounds lost, so it has six beads on it at this point. They're so pretty. I bought the seventh bead and it's waiting in a little velvet bag in my jewelry armoire for 70 lbs lost. I think everyone thinks, that for someone as broke as I am, this is rather a silly luxury, but it means a lot to me.

Because of the situation at my house right now, I had to warp all six student looms Thursday night, so I didn't go to bed. We drove to Jefferson City Friday morning and I taught the first class Friday afternoon. I was developing a cold and since I didn't go to bed Thurs. night, it was getting worse.

Friday night I had to get the six student looms rewarped for the Sat. morning class. One of my students from Friday helped me. We stayed in the cabin until around 9:30 and then, since the other ladies wanted to go to sleep, we moved out to the cabin porch. It wasn't too bad at first. We got five of the looms warped, but it got colder and colder. We got pretty chilled. By 11:30 pm, our hands were cramping from the cold and suddenly the wind picked up. We were half way through the last loom and we just looked at each other and said, "Ain't gonna happen!" and ran for our bunks.

I was in bed by 12 am, but the damage was already done. I woke up with early laryngitis, chills and a slight fever. My class started at 8 am. All of my students seemed to enjoy it. I almost took the van back to the cabin to sleep all afternoon, but stayed in the campus building instead and didn't get back to the cabin until around 9 pm, after dinner and the keynote speaker.

I woke up Sunday (an hour early because of DST, 4:30 am) and we packed all of our gear into the back of my DIL's huge old truck and headed for campus for breakfast and the last of the classes. I didn't have any, so I sat in the commons room and vegetated (actually got the heel of my second sock turned). My laryngitis was now full on and I was running a slight fever. At noon we headed home and I didn't stay at my son's house for dinner and a movie. I packed my stuff back into my SUV and headed for my bed.

Yesterday, I went to the Dr. Of course, they couldn't really do anything but treat the symptoms. They gave me nose spray and tessalon pearls and sent me home. I stopped on the way home and stocked up on chicken soup and cranberry juice. I've, basically, been asleep since, but, my friend ran me up to Independence to Drennon Jewelry to pick out my bracelet. I wasn't too sick for that. LOL!!!

Jo, I think it is awwesome that you are doing that as a reward for your hard work. And the heck with what anyone else thinks. I think you deserve it! Sorry that you are so sick. Hope that you start feeling better very soon. Those Tessi pearls are amazing for the cough! Hugs, dear friend, and take good care of yourself.

As long as you are buying yourself something meaningful like your charms for a reward and not cheesecake, I'm all for it! :)

You are a weaver? So cool.

I like the reward idea - gotta think of something for myself!

Thanks everyone. I LOVE the bracelet. It's prettier than I had envisioned. Z's, I'm a weaver. I have a four harness Mighty Wolf and an eight harness Norwood. What I taught this week-end is tablet weaving, nice and portable. Abba, most people use clothing rewards I think, but I'm still going down, so I wanted something fairly permanent. Bren, I'm still feeling pretty rough. I HATE upper respiratory junk! Steph, you're a dear. The only reason I worry about upsetting people when I make frivolous purchases is that they are subsidizing my income and it really looks bad. Hugs!

Jo, even subsidized people enjoy some luxuries and its not like you are taking the money and spending it on drugs or alcohol so anyone that has a problem with it... well they can come take it up with me...lol
