jmb3450's Journal, 25 June 2014

I'm back from Buffalo. It as a good visit as far as getting to see our new grandson and we also got the fence up for my stepdaughter. Very stressful and challenging in other ways for a number of reasons I won't go into. For me it's good to be back home even though in a way that is selfish. For my wife it's difficult, she misses being with her kids/grandkids and being able to see them. Being here apart from her family, back together while in NY, then back apart again is a big adjustment and always a hard thing.

Friday before the trip the rear brakes on the car started grinding so I spent that evening getting the parts and replacing them...there was no time to prepare or get any food so while in NY I ate what everyone else was having for the most part...pizza, wings, subs, there were some fresh veggies and yogurt. No way my calorie intake was more than calories expended as the fence was solid work for 2 days, still I come back 3 lbs heavier. Carbs, water weight, constipation, etc etc? Who knows and frankly it doesn't matter, it needs to come off so back to doing what I was before the trip. 2 days to do it before I record weight on Friday morning.

Summer is a busy time at work as there's a lot of work to do getting IT equipment updated and ready for the start of a new school year in August so I don't know how much time I'll have in the day to be online but I'll do my best to check in and give support, hopefully will get some time in the evenings. Let's have a good day, at least we can do our best to make it that way whatever our circumstances may be.

I'm from Lewiston, NY! Can certainly relate to the "WNY food curse!" (Mariposa's subs!)...when I go up I tend to gain as well. And I have to bring 22 loaves of dicamillos bread, vincenzo's Pizza and Tim Hortons coffee home to Florida for my family in my luggage as well. Hang in there...you'll loose those few lbs you gained. Good luck to you!

I feel you have the right idea. Eating what's available a few days isn't going to destroy everything you've done as long as you get back to cleaner foods when possible. It's not the few days that does the damage.. it's the long term intake of it. You'll be fine.

The operative words are "ate what everyone else was having." All of us have been in that circumstance. So for you it is extra good to get home. Thank goodness for hard working IT professionals in the field of education. I appreciated our IT expert for all of the great things he did. Isn't that odd how we can WORK HARD at a task all day long, yet that hard work does not have the same result as conventional physical exercise. Your work outs will feel extra good. Have a great day!

Glad you got to see the kiddos...and anytime you have to vary from your normal routine, some gain is expected from the things you mentioned, I wouldn't worry, it'll come right off!

You're still in the early training stages of this journey. You'll find out it will drop off quickly.

It is cool to eat what everyone else is just in moderation

Wow! sounds busy! You have the right attitude though! You might have built some muscles with all the fencing and car fixing! You are right though constipation can be a weight killer as long trips can mess up a good schedule. You could try down loading the app to your phone so that you can keep up to date on here say in a bank line up or something! Keep up the great attitude you will get the weight off I'm sure! We are all cheering each other on!

No worries. You are back in charge of what you eat. Your food choices today are excellent. :)

M.H. - I have a dumb phone, it just calls, I can't even text. Which is fine, I hate texting. You are right about trips, they mess my system up big time. If I travelled a lot I guess I'd be in trouble. Hennebrooke, I concur on the WNY foods. Good stuff but it'll pack on some pounds if you're not careful. BUT...you haven't really had the best wings unless you've gotten them at the Anchor Bar. They have a wing fest each year, restaurants come from all over the country and you can sample them all. I can attest that Anchor Bar wins hands down. And then there's sponge candy :)

I'm not even from the area and I've heard of Anchor Bar...my hubby's big on chicken wings...

You were off your feed and change of habit. Back to the grindstone, it will come off. Food like that has a lot of sodium. Might just be water weight.
