Friday (day 5)

If for one day you could feel what it is like to weigh 10 kilo's less ...

My biggest problem when i was at my highest weight, was the self pity. I exercised, feeling exhausted and i was angry with people not getting it that for me exercising was at least five times harder then for them! I was angry at the gym for people making me do exercises that where impossible with my weight, like push-ups. Did they not see i had a lot more weight to push up off the floor then them?
I felt sorry for myself for all the lovely foods i was used to and comfortable with and now i cannot eat those anymore. Does nobody see and understand i am having a rough time? ... And then i gave myself one advice. I promised myself not to have self pity for ONE WEEK!!! Just kick my butt... sure i was exhausted from exercise, i had years of non-exercise to compensate. Sure i missed my favorite foods, but ate the lentil-soup even 'till i almost gagged... finally i wrote down everything for my past that was still bugging me, and in my way, and i created in my head a hero to cope with those and i wrote down how he slain the dragon from my youth, and how he overcame his (mine) problems....

KICK BUTT! FIGHT! NO SELF PITY!!!!

It's so easy to obtain instantaneous gratification with so many things that it's easy to get discouraged with weight loss. It's the small steps that make the largest impact though. Those memes all over Facebook ate right : attitude is everything. Congratulations on taking a very powerful step! Good luck on your journey :)

So true. Selfpity does not get you or anyone else anywhere. But as much as I agree that you need/ should exercise, I am a bit wary about the 'kick butt'. I work out 3 times a week. I give it my all, I work as hard as I can and it makes me feel good :)

I think there is a fine line between self pity and treating yourself kindly - one of the biggest steps in this journey for me was learning to love myself and my body - you wouldn't abuse something you loved....it's an ongoing learning curve.....

A lot of people mix pity up with love. If you pity someone you are not allowing that person to grow. If you marry someone out of pity you will find yourself miserable or divorced... Pity in the end has got nothing to do with true love. Pity is abuse.

Can't use pity in the same sentence as love. It is an oxymoron.

Way to go Puhpine! Self pity limits a person so much. Getting rid of that pity party attitude opens up the world.

I am new here, however, you don't have to give up any food. It's all about control! I haven't given up my favorite foods! you also don't have to pity yourself or kick your butt! exercise doesn't have to be painful either! message me and I can give you some sound advice. For everbody else reading this by giving up your favorite food all you are going to do is set yourself up for failure. And what I mean is the more you deny yourself what you enjoy the more you are going to want it. This is why most diets don't work long term. I had to find this out the hard way. anything else just message me. Good luck on all of your journeys!

By the way Before starting this and being on here I was 350 lbs back in July of 2010. I went down to 230 Lbs in Dec 2012. Now I gained back 55 Lbs from Dec 2012 to a couple of weeks ago. Now today I'm 280 lbs. I had Bariatric surgery on 20 July 2010.

Where I messed up is denying myself what I enjoyed!

For many of us, the food we love consists of eating bags of Cheetos, potato chips(me), ding dongs, all the foods that are processed and basically not healthy for you. So, denying ourselves those particular foods is not setting ourselves up for failure. It is setting us up for a lifetime of healthy eating and nutrition.

Right...real food is good. Losing weight and getting healthy is all about choices.

True! But change needs to be slow and besides you don't have to eat your favorite foods all in the same day! just be conscience of what it is you put in your mouth. Give yourself a treat even if it is a serving of Cheetos or a Ding dong here and there.

You had surgery. And yet you gained. Interesting. I have a great niece who did the same thing and was miffed because the surgery didn't work. Not accepting the fact she still had to diet and watch what she ate. And as to the ding dong. I have a reputation on this site for loving donuts. And they throw my loss into a standstill. Just 1 donut. And you know, I eat a salad everyday. Spinach with various veggies and love it. Don't miss the sandwiches, chips, pickles, etc. Finding out that's all I need and my old friend Little Debbie was an evil little wench.

The surgery works until the person goes back into the same old habits. To keep it off permanently you still have to be diligent but understand that we eat to live not live to eat! but it's OK to treat yourself and not feel guilty! This is the key! Like I said I had to learn the hard way!
