Chickturu's Journal, 26 March 2014

Today I got the confirmation that I need to travel to NZ for 3 weeks.

I'm already starting to panic because last 2 times I was there, my team and me had very bad conditions - the office is in the middle of nowhere, and the closest places to eat are McD, Carls Jr. and Sushi Itto, that's it.

Last time, the guys from NZ were kind enough to order some catering for us, which consisted in (mainly greasy and unhealthy) finger food, and some fruits. This time it seems that it will be the same.

I'm preparing myself as best as I can and I booked a hotel close to a supermarket, so I can go everyday and buy 'something' that I can just mix and eat without much preparation; this will probably mean that I'll prepare boring salads, so not looking forward to that.

On the positive side, I booked a hotel with gym, so I will hopefully be able to exercise there.

Anyway, I'm taking with me my hand weighs, and my 2 scales (the food scale and my body scale). Call me exagerated! but I feel more secure if I take them with me so I can still record as accurate as I can.

Perhaps I'm just being overcomplicated!

Overcomplicated, maybe, but I commend you for your forethought. That's a recipe for success, in my book. Very cool to hear about the hotel with the gym, try to have fun with it! I'm not sure about your situation, but it sounds a tad bit stressful, so don't forget to take some time to decrompress! Good luck!

First of all I'm so jealous! Second, I think you're trying to be realistic and do what you know you need to. At least you checked ahead of time and you know the supermarket is there. Don't eat the same salad every day so you're tempted to give up and eat junk. Use chicken, beef, tuna, different dressings, croutons, a variety of veggies, beans, whatever it takes for that salad to be more appealing. Buy some sugar free pudding cups or something too for dessert. You're going to do great!!

Do the best you can. If you have a microwave in your hotel, you should be able to find some frozen meals to pair with a salad and fruit. If you have your computer, look up some healthier choices at the fast food places. If you know you are going out to dinner, try to eat a lighter breakfast and lunch and squeeze in exercise where you can. If you come back the same as when you left, you are doing pretty good. Enjoy yourself!!

Thank you all guys :) Honestly it is so helpful for me to read your advice. I know there are many things that I won't be able to control, but whatever I can control, I will definitely do! so I'll make sure to be creative enough to have tasty and healthy meals and yes, I'll definitely find some dessert :) I don't have microwave but they have one in the office so this will also help. Mars, don't be jealous! Trust me, I'm going on a mission impossible ;) so most likely I won't even have free weekends - this happened last times and we expect it to happen again... Anyway, I'll make the most out of it! I'll keep reporting any progress :) Thank you once again!

I also think that taking the scales with you (especially the food scale) is a great idea! :)
