I have to figure out a way to eat healthier at T.G.I. Friday's. My wife and kids, all of who are in good shape, love the place and with the coupons we get as loyal customers, we end up going there once a week. I get the cobb salad everytime we go because it says it's only 530 calories on their menu (before salad dressing) but fatsecret says it's 1,200(!) calories. I'm not sure which to believe but I stick with the fatsecret total because I've seen that total elsewhere on the internet. Either way I have to scan their menu to find healthier/less caloric options!

Aw man, salads are almost the worst offenders at any restaurant. It's not the lettuce and veggies... it's all the other crap. Cheese Cake Factory has salads that go as high as 2600 calories. That does not include the butter or rolls also served. IMO... any kind of non fried fish, chicken or filet steak would be a better selection, with baked potato a pat of butter and some veggie. Now I'm hungry. Why are people always talking about food around here LOL!

That makes me think of the Bud Light Real Men of Genius Commercials about the taco salad. "Is it healthly? Of course it is. There's lettuce in it." Here's to you ol'conquestidor of the condiment!!

BTW, The TGIFriday's caloric count is about 1/2 that of Fat Secret's. Just a suggestion, but did you ensure the serving sizes were the same? Perhaps one plate of the Cobb Salad is meant to serve two.

You might be right about the serving size of the salad. Funny that they don't mention that in the menu. The menu has all of these options, none of which are under 800 calories each and the cobb salad is listed without salad dressing at 530. So like the dumb ass that I am I choose that one every time because I do like it but I have to find a way to eat something else there because it's not like we are going to stop going there. My wife and kids love the place too much.

This likely won't help for restaurant dining (unless you don't mind them spitting in your salad for crazy requests or the owners know and love you and don't the special requests), but I've found that you can get away with less overall dressing if you put all your salad into a large bowl, then mix well with the dressing in there where you can toss well before throwing onto a plate or in serving salad bowl. If dressing just tossed on top it never mixes well and typically people use more dressing that way.
