Amarok's Journal, 17 February 2009

Today has been a day filled with odd bits of luck and good karma - and I'm shocked to see my fat:fiber ratio - I figure that means I should be regular... :D

I do of course need to pick it up on the water end of things, but my water currently smells like dirty socks which rightly means I'm disinclined to drink from it and that it needs some serious washing - I did replace it, but it didn't seem to help.

As for the odd bit of luck - a lost earing was found by our wonderful evening custodian. The good karma, I gave up the chance to have something, and was rewarded by getting my own. Finally, I found this beautiful CWF poster of a wild columbine and its making me smile every time I see it. Those of you who do not know me should know that gardens are one of my passions. Last summer the best part of my day was my tour of the garden to check what was blooming, what needed watering, what needed trimming, grooming, clipping, insect removal and of course I took my camera. Thus - whenever I'm having a rough day I have all my photos to flip through. I'm very excited to see the arctic spring. Its supposed to be beautiful. I'm getting more and more used to the cold - I find it hardly bothers me to walk from home to school. The spring is supposed to be something else though. I got a box of books on geology, knitting, cooking and teaching that I'd been waiting for and for the grande finale my boss expressed his sincere faith in me to succeed in organizing an event placed in my hands. All and all, I feel a corner has been turned. And if I set my mind to it... I can still beat that thesis into submission and maybe even get to spend my summer hiking and camping and taking pictures and gardening... or at least some of those things. My garden is largely perennials, so they need some love, but I shouldn't have much planting to do... just a week or so of mulching and fertalizing and filling in holes left by those who failed to make it through the winter. I'm a bit worried about the lupine and some of the columbine.

I'm having one of those days (lack of water aside) where I feel I can achieve the massive load of things heaped on my plate... and somehow not be totally stressed out in the process.

If today was a hike, I'd be sitting at the first look-out spot on a cool morning watching the mist rise from the forest.
