Rajah1973's Journal, 10 January 2011

Been out of it for over a month now. The news of my increasing cholesterol has sent me into a whirlwind of self destruction. I can't explain how hopeless, and helpless I feel at this point. I really want to try to get back on track but I don't see the point. My motivation level has completely disappeared, as has my encouragement. I have absolutely no support system, and I feel lost. I just don't know where to start over at, or even how. I have sit by the phone waiting on phone calls from nutritionists and RD's ( never received them ) to try to educate myself future in what steps I need to take at this point. However, if after losing 50+ pouinds hasn't decreased my cholesterol and improved my overall health, then what's the point in trying. I feel like I gave everything I had but yet I sit here with more than 40 pounds still to lose and 50 points (increased) to lower on my cholesterol.

Rajah, Hang in there. I know this is EXTREMELY tough. However, though those 50+ lbs may not be showing improvements in the numbers you're currently using to measure your health, do NOT doubt for one minute that they have helped your overall health for the long-term. You need to let the weight issue be separate from the cholesterol. For you, diet and exercise don't influence that number, NOT your fault. But that does not negate the health benefits of losing weight and exercise. Let the cholesterol be its own issue. My husband has very bad cholesterol and his continues to get worse. He is barely a few pounds overweight, yet the numbers continue to worsen. It's the genetic factor, not the health factor. Sounds like you fall in a similar category. I'm sure that lowering your cholesterol must have been a goal of your health regimen, but I think you've proven that you've done what you can to help the cholesterol with healthy changes. Now let the weight be it's own thing. Do it for you. Think about other reasons you started this. All your work has NOT been in vane. It just hasn't had ALL the desired effects. We all need to reassess and reevaluate along the way and adjust our goals and expectations. Otherwise we'll never reach that end goal. We all have curve balls that life throws our way, we just need to figure out how to navigate around them rather than letting them throw us off course. Sometimes despite our best efforts they knock us off course anyway. When this happens you take time to breathe, regroup, reassess and then decide how to move forward. I wish you the VERY best and am happy to provide any cheerleading you may need to get back into this and move forward. Wishing you the best!
