Johanne's Journal, 06 January 2011

I finally got my blood work and urine test back. The results are pretty amazing, but there are still a few trouble spots.

Total Cholesterol: 186 (I don't EVER remember it being under 212.)
LDL: 77 (I don't ever remember it being under 100.)
*HDL: 42 (Still too low)
*Triglicerides: 336 (They are up and I don't have a clue why.)

A1c: 5.7 (down and almost in the normal range)
Glucose: 93 (down and in the normal range)

CBC Hemoglobin: 14.2 (I don't EVER remember it being this high. It's usually hard to keep it above 9. The gluten free diet must be working to repair my small intestine. I seem to be absorbing iron after all these years. Oh my! [Of course, I'm still taking my heavy duty, prescription iron supplements.])

TSH: 2.240 (In a good range)

Blood Protein: 7.2 (Dead center of normal, even though I am eating much less protein, mostly from vegetables)

*Vitamin D: 16.3 (I requested this test after listening to Dr. Oz. It's too low. They want me to take D3 supplements.)

The urine and blood creatinine and albumin tests both came out normal. (That's the first time in all the years they've been testing that I haven't shown elevated levels of protein in the urine. My kidneys seem to be functioning normally again.)

Yay for a healthy diet and weight loss. Now to figure out how to lower the triglycerides, raise the HDL and Vitamin D, and I'm set. Wahoo!!!

That's wonderful news! Just goes to show that a change in diet can & will change how your body functions for the better. I think once you figure out how, you'll do fine bringing down your triglycerides. : )

Steph, I was trying to make comments and somehow, I deleted your entry. Ouch! Bren, after the official weigh in this morning and the blood work results, I'm walking on cloud nine. It's great to know that all the study, hard work and self diagnosis (backed up by actual lab tests, of course) are paying off. Shay and Steph, I am working on triglycerides and HDL as I write. It turns out that many of the same things, like fish oil, work for both. I'll get them turned around. Right now I feel like superwoman!

That's alright, Jo. I simply was saying how happy I was for you. And asking if the dr was gobsmacked again? I am so proud of yo for all the progress you have made and for taking control of your health. You are awesome, dear friend!

Thank you all so much. I can feel the love! Steph, I haven't talked to him yet. I got the results from his nurse over the phone and SHE seemed surprised. They are supposed to mail the result copies to me, and his comments should be on there. Bren, thank you. I love it when my buddies have great things happen too. I think that is why I love this site so much.
