Ruhu's Journal, 14 January 2014

I'm leaving tomo to fly back "home" & see my Mom, so the excitement & some anxiety are building. But, I do feel stronger, healthier, and more equipped (thanks fort he reminder, Angel!) than ever to deal with whatever this trip holds. I've planned the trip for the length of time that I've realized is most manageable -- 5 days -- enough to get done what needs doing there but not too long that the stress of her disease becomes too much. I've organized what Mom & I will do together, and time for me -- to spend with my 2 close friends back home (each have had or has a parent with Alzheimer's), plus alone, rejuvenating time for me. After arriving last time to my Mom being very anxious over what we were doing while I was there, which is very different to the routine she has fallen nicely into at the assisted living facility, this time, I mailed her a schedule so she is already aware of what we're doing each day. And, for the trip back on Monday (MLK Day), DH should be able to either pick me up at the airport or be here at the house for me when I return -- I so desperately wanted & needed a hug upon my return from my last visit (which of course, he didn't know), so this time I warned him ahead. So, I think, I have all the bases as covered as I can, plus I know I have you & the wonderful love and support you always show me all along the way -- thank you soooooo much in advance! Much of the "me" time will be spent journaling, as its so therapeutic for me.

I've been to my workout this morning, so before I go to pack, I'll pray --

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

And for this one day, and each one meal, moment, bite, thought & emotion, I'll pray, breathe, journal, log & express my way. Especially as I begin this adventure to see my Mom, I'm more grateful than ever for each of you (you mean more than words can say and your love and support is priceless), my family & IRL friends, fair weather predicted for my travel day tomorrow, and having the health & wealth to live this life I love. xoxox

Good for you, Ruth, taking the time to listen to yourself about what you need and finding creative ways to give it to yourself. Much love, Ceci

Sounds as if you are well and truly organised.... Such a good idea to send the itinerary, to your mom. Don't be upset, if she wants to change bits. Love that you have warned your DH, that you will want a hug when you return. Men can be such duh's about realising that. Have a good trip, and enjoy meeting up with those old friends :-)

Wishing you a nice trip. I know it's difficult, but what a wonderful and caring person you are to do this. Sometimes the caregiver needs a little tlc, too though! I'm sending some Hugz before you go and a great big smile. Will keep you in my Prayers :)

I hope you have a wonderful time with your mom. Amazing how you're able to organize it before hand. What part of the country are you traveling to? Hope you'll be able to journal while you're there. Safe travels.
