I'm back to calorie counting!
All of the "eat whatever you want" over the holidays seems to have not added anything to my weight... hooray for moderation. I'm pretty sure this is the advantage that I have over people who are doing prescribed/proscribed diets-- I'm learning how to go out in to the wilds of food and make healthy choices. If your diet consists of eating what someone else tells you to, then you don't learn those skills.

Agreed and hallelujah. I maintained over the holidays as well, with fairly little effort - just aimed to balance the feast days with healthy days, and avoided eating any thing (like sugar cookies) that I don't really like and just add empty calories to my life. Congrats on keeping it together! This whole approach is damnably slow feeling sometimes, but I think it's working.
