Sherota's Journal, 06 January 2014

I haven't journaled online for a while. I've created an offline journal that I may share in the future. I've been up and down with my weight loss journey seeking something that truly works for me. I've tried a combination of things but I think I've found something that I truly like that may work for me long term. On Atkins I missed my carbs, on the 8 hour diet I gorgred and ate all of the wrong things. You'd be amazed at how many calories you can cram into an 8 hour period even if you include the superfoods suggested. On the 5:2 Diet I did good on the 500 calorie day but found myself obsessing over food. Then on the free days I went hog wild. Each of the diets worked for me to a certain degree but their flaws were that on all of them was that I felt that I was missing something. I then heard about the LCHF or "Low Carb High Fat Diet". Instead of focusing on high protien it focuses in a higher fat level. I did my research and decided to try it out. I also learned about the "Fat Fast". I thought that would be an impossibility for me but I got the cookbook created some meals and followed it for 3 days. It says you can do it for 3-5 days but for me I'm limiting it to 3 days because beyond that I know I will begin to obsess about food. I followed the LCHF Diet. The bonus that I added was that I am including a mandatory free day every few weeks. On that day I can eat literally anything I want. The catch is I'm limiting myself to around 2500 calories on that day. I will always follow that day with a three day "Fat Fast" and then return to "LCHF". The funny thing is I've thoroughly enjoyed each one of these phases and have been able to eat the foods that I truly enjoy without guilt. I have found that for myself I cannot stick to just one way of eating all the time. There is to much variety in the world. Too many opinions about what's good and what is bad. My conclusion is we all need to find what works for us and stick to it. Not everything works for everybody. If you want to be a Vegan, follow Atkin's, 5:2, or your own diet if it works for you and keeps you healthy that's the important thing. My tools now are the occasional "Fat Fast", "LCHF Diet", my own 2500 calorie "Mandatory Free Day". I also use the "Eat This Not That" series to get a gadge on whats in my food and I will use it sometimes to choose the foods that I will eat on my free day.
