GlennM's Journal, 29 December 2010

I am doing well. The book is coming along well, I am spending so much time on it I have little time for anything else. It will be done in a few weeks and ready to be sent into an agent then publisher then editor. It is historical fiction based on some real events, some I have to add into the book. Science fiction and fantasy are easier to write because one doesn't have to do tons of research. Anyway, the weather is mild but probably too windy to walk around much. It is much warmer than it has been lately, maybe 50* on Friday so New Year's Eve will be nice here, but I am working that night. I ate bacon and egg sandwiches for breakfast and need to cut back on the cholesterol if I'm not doing Atkins so I am not going to buy anymore greasy, unhealthy foods and limit sugary carbs too.
Vocabulary word for Monday: bonhomie - good-natured friendliness. ---- Origin from 18th Century from French, literally "good fellow".

Well alright then keep at it and you'll get published in no time. Glad your feeling better. Stay away from the jam.

Have you chosen a title for the book yet and will you let us know how to get the book when it is done? Congratulations in advance to getting it published, I know that it is a labor of love. Bonhomie to you to friend. Happy New Year!

Thanks Cindy - out of the six in progress five have an excellent title. The short story book is the one that the title is up in the air right now. I don't want to give out titles until I have the book published successfully. Bonhomie to you too, Cindy... Prospero Ano tambien... That means Happy New Year in Spanish, they say prosperous year, tambien means also...

Thanks BHA - no more Splenda jam or whatever else is in it... ten minutes ago I ate some vegetables - mixed, and inhaled the LAST piece (of corn) and it went down where the lung is I think, and did I ever cough to get that out. The dog was startled, it popped out after vigorous coughing, I will eat my food much more slowly now and try to chew everything too...

Actually I remembered the 'correct' way to say Happy New Year in Spanish is Prospero Ano Nuevo... usually when saying Merry Christmas and Happy New Year the Nuevo (new) is left out and hence, Feliz Navidad y Prospero Ano...

Thanks Bren - thankfully it was only one piece of corn and that was bad enough. I know how to do the Heimlich maneuver because I used to be a nurse so would have pushed up under my sternum if I had to, but it works better if someone else is there to do it for you... it was more frightening than painful... went for a mile-long walk today - the next three or more days a warm-up is expected - 50s by the weekend, which is great for here as the temp average is the low to mid 30s for a high... I plan to do lots of walking!

Great progress on the book Glenn, you certainly have been working hard lately! I'm glad to hear that you survived the storm up there, I was hearing that it was being compared to a hurricane. Take good care of yourself!

The wind WAS strong! We only got two to four inches here in the Pioneer Valley of W Massachusetts. It feels warm out with the sun and no breeze, it's already over freezing out, the next two days it is supposed to get maybe into the 50s, so the snow will melt. I have got nearly 1/3 of the book done in final draft. A few weeks more... then onto the 300 page book, and aggressively seeking an agent for book # 1. I am going to work hard to get six books done by the end of next year, four just need typing and editing, so if they're done that will be great in itself. Books 5 and 6 need lots of work, so I hope it doesn't take too long as they're not done in first draft yet. I have become a markedly better editor in the past six months, practice makes perfect...
