MrsTofu's Journal, 27 December 2010

Ooops. I just noticed that I'm really behind on the grateful list. There should be 60 things listed to date and I think that I only have 30. Therefore I am going to try and come up with enough to catch up.

1) my marriage.
2) my dad's support and dedication during my severely depressed years.
3) vacationing in Sedona back in 2005.

(It was the first and only time I ever worked long enough to earn vacation. I got to visit my maternal grandma and other relatives for my birthday, also it was the first time I ever really traveled by myself.)

4) knowing that my (maternal)grandmother did not die alone.
5) my paternal grandma's quick passing.

(It's never easy seeing a family member go through Alzheimer's, but having closure and not seeing a family member suffer is easier than watching someone's personality being destroyed by this degenerative neurological condition.)

6) working laundry machines in my house.
7) being able to read.
8) having access to primary education and medical care.
9) being able to live close to family.
10) the diversity of ethnic restaurants and groceries available near me.

(Lotte is such an awesome supermarket! The produce is better quality and cheaper than the big chain stores- Giant, Superfresh, Safeway, Shoppers, etc.,- AND they have great, authentic ethnic ingredients- like loganberries, persimmons, breadfruit, seafood, herbs and sauces, etc.)

11) amiable neighbors.
12) all of the friends who have helped my family in times of need. (with babysitting, home repair, errands, etc.,)
13) high speed internet access.
14) The Joy of Cooking.
15) Allrecipes.com.
(#14 and #15 have helped me answer the age-old, dreaded question of 'What's for dinner?' on multiple occasions)

16) paved roads.
17) legible street signs.
18) sane traffic patterns.
19) not having to live in DC or Northern Virginia.
(which would negate #17 and #18. NoVa and parts of DC are really beautiful, but the civil engineering seems to say, If you are not from around here/ don't know how to get around, screw you! You don't belong here. We're overpriced and overhyped but we don't care.')

20) summer vacation in Bethany Beach with my family.
21) having a competent and kind psychiatrist.
22) not having bad side effects with my meds.
23) having medical coverage.
24) life not turning out the way I expected.
25) having a hope that never fails.
26) glasses that help me see.
27) indoor plumbing- especially during winter.
28) reverse osmosis filtration.
29) music.
30) digital cameras.
